Climatronic fault

Featured Replies

I was driving back to work today and after half an hour I turned the temp down from 22 to 20. I carried on driving for another 5 mins and the car was still as hot if not hotter so I turned it all the way down to 18. It still didnt cool down so I turned it down to the blue mark under 18 and the fan sped up to max and the air coming out of the vents was hot. I turned the auto function to the other setting and the fault persisted so I selected the airflow to the cabin manually so the auto would turn off. This still didnt fix the fault and the car was so hot I had the windows down (it was 2°c outside and I only had a t-shirt on so I must have looked a right idiot).

I turned the aircon on and off multipule times and this did not fix it either but I did notice that when I turned the auto function back on the temp jumped up from the blue marker to 22. I also tried turning on the dual function and having differant temps set but the same temp air came out both sides. The car was still hot even tho the windows were open so I resorted to turning off the climatronic to cool the car down.

After 5 mins I turned the climatronic back on and it was working fine again.

Has anyone else had this and would it log any fault codes?

The car is going in to the stealers on the 20th for a new wing mirror after some scumbag broke it off so do you think it is worth mentioning to them when it is in?

Put the car onto vcds just look in the vcds section for nearest owner of vcds. It most likely would have loged a fault. Sounds like theres a problem with cliatronic controler.

As above, when its back at the dealers for the wing mirror, mention it to them, they'll scan the car for faults.

I had the same problem with mine. It was the temperature control flap which I remedied by pressing the below buttons on the control panel.

I'm unable to provide you with a link at the moment, but if you do a search I'm sure you'll find it.

With the ignition on but the engine NOT running, hold down the ECON and the bottom left of the four oblong buttons for airflow. The display changes and then you hear all the flaps calibrating.

Basically, pressing the two buttons causes the flap to cycle through its full range of movement as they can sometimes become jammed. When it does this, you'll hear a clicking noise from behind the vents.

Hope this helps.

I don't think there is an "econ" button on them any more my 2011 doesn't have it perhaps its pre FL only or something. Sounds like a good thing to try must be a similar procedure for the new ones perhaps a flick through the manual time.

Ah, sorry mate wasn't aware it was different. I'm sure there's some clever bugger out there who's got the answer!

Good luck.

I've just had an evaporator sensor or something along those lines changed under warranty because of climate obit issues. My problem tended to be the temperature going cool and not producing warm air. I could go from the blue setting all the way to the red and the temperature remained constantly cool. Also had an issue with the fan where I could hear the speed change but it didn't blow any air through the vents. As with your car, after a few minutes with the engine off it would all work fine. Hopefully it will be sorted now but it's been a long road. Oh, should add that I don' think it gave any fault codes and part was changed after dealer discussed with Skoda UK. Apparently I'm not the only one that's had this problem. Hope this helps.

Not sure if I'm that clever but on retrofitting the newer climate control panel to my pre FL I had to reset with a few second long hold of AC + rear window heater on turning on engine (until the fan kicked in). Then cold air no problem.

Cheers guys. I will wait until the car goes in to the stealers for the wing mirror since the nearest person with vcds is 40 miles away.

My 2008 model vRS is currently boiling me alive on the drivers side when set to LO and air-conditioning the passenger??? I've reset the system as per instructions above so hoping it will fix the issue.

This problem is bearable now (December) but I'm dreading summer already. I'll be roasted.

Never had a car with seperate heater for driver and passenger. Is this normal or an Octavia quirk?

Sounds to me like a fault. Part of the initial issue I had was that passenger side air was always cooler than driver's side when both temperatures were set the same. That was sorted with a new sensor under warranty. Sounds like you could have something similar going on. From what the dealer told me the last time my car was in, these climatronic issues are well known to Skoda.

Thanks Sarge, does sound like we have/had similar faults with climatronic.

I'll bite the bullet and take it to my local dealer for diagnosis or should I use my local VW/Audi specialist (Skoda?), I'm guessing the Octavia is basically a Golf/Passat/A3/A4 clone with different sheet metal and interior?

Thanks for the help on this

Had a similar problem with mine a couple of weeks ago. Passenger side was blowing out v hot air regardless of the temperature or auto setting. Worked OK after parking up for a bit and restarting.

Thanks Pete, I'm guessing yours being a DSG is the facelift Octavia II model, I imagine the basic climatronic and ventilation system is the same. I'll have to get mine checked out I think, no amount of re-setting, turning off or changing through the temp control cycle seems to help. It all sounds motorised inside, I can hear all kinds of ventilation sounds and vacuum noises on start up?

Check one of the temperature probes hasn't fallen out.

If you remove the dash top storage compartment and the stereo you will see two sensors in the air ducts, one for each side. One of mine had fallen out and I was getting different temperatures each side, but not by that much!

Could well be something like this on mine - I had taken out the head unit and dropped the glovebox to fit the microphone for hands-free phone working; wouldn't be at all surprised if I'd dislodged something.

Mine did exactly the same last weekend. Was working fine. Went to shops with family and on way back wife complained of being too hot. My vents were blowing tepid air - the wife's side was boiling hot. Did a flap reset using the buttons and things seem OK again (touch wood/fingers crossed etc). Hope it's not a sign of things starting to pack up?

Yeh, that's what mine used to do too. Switching off the engine, even for just a couple of minutes, seemed to re-set it but it was only a temporary fix.

On the pre-fl at least, it's standard on the climatronic for the passenger to be able to control the temp on their own side of the car. Doesn't get used in mine so I can't remember, but apart from when you turn the ignition off and on again, there's a simple way of resyncing it whilst driving again so it all does the same temp off the drivers side control. It's in the manual.

Standard VAG design.

I really need to get to vcds your car. Sorry it's taken so long.

I've had the same issue as the OP on my 2006 Vrs. I've just done the reset and its a little better,

As I was doing this I pressed the top right of the 4 buttons and some other numbers come up on the display ,

These could be changed by moving the dials,

Any idea what they do?( pic attached)

Car was conected up to the diagnostics machine today and there were no fault codes aparently. Could it be a hardware fault with the temp sensor?

The garage told me that my issues weren't logging any fault codes either and they ended up changing a couple of sensors. Was back and forward to the garage with it numerous times before the last sensor (an evaporation sensor or something) was done. Problem I have is that issues only manifest themselves several hours in to a journey and I don't make many long journeys just now.

Was driving home tonight when thus happened again only the pasanger side worked perfectly. Only the drivers side was roasting hot tonight so I still looked like a muppet again driving round with the windows down in the rain :giggle: (at least I had a jacket on today). Popped in by the dealers as it was only a 2 mile detour to show them the fault and they agreed that something was wrong (really? I hadent noticed lol) so the car is booked in for mid february to have the whole dash ripped out to find the fault.

A courtesy car is booked so they can faf around with it for a few days but they are trying to charge me £12 a day for insurance emoticon-0112-wondering.gif . Is that not covered by skoda since my car will be in for warrenty work and mine will be undriveable? The main reason that I ask is because my car goes in on a thursday and will deffo be there on the friday as well and I am not paying for the courtesy car over the weekend until monday because that will cost £60 for 5 days insurance when my car will be sitting round with no work being done to it over the weekend.

None of the (numerous) vehicles that I had while mine was in cost me anything for insurance, and I had a mixture of two dealer courtesy vehicles and a hire car. The hire car company required a £70 deposit which was refunded on return of the vehicle.

My previous BMW, the dealer charge a £15 "admin fee" for providing/arranging the insurance, but it was a one-off that covered the whole period that you had their car for. That said, they didn't bother charging me when I had one once.
