Citigo Automatic

Being a fully converted Skodaite, I am considering a Citigo as a replacement for my wife's old motor.

She is now a converted 'auto' driver after dabbling around in my DSG Superb MKII. I understand that DSG is not available for the Citigo, but something called ASG ????

I'd like some feedback from anyone who is driving/has driven the Citigo with this transmission.

I need to purchase a Citigo pretty sharpish, as she also has her eye on the new upcoming Hyundai i10. I'd like to stick with the Skoda brand, as I have nothing but admiration for Skoda

Thank you

Hi

There have been loads of threads on the ASG gearbox

such as > http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/265352-citigo-asg-gearbox-fault-or-design/

Unfortunately most posts are problems that people are having (Bear in mind happy people tend not to post though)

Have you tried the Search bar in the top right? Just type ASG in and you will get a couple of pages of topics

Lots of info to be found

Cheers

Thanks Damo.

Found a few posts that seem to suggest that this auto box is quite reliable & mainly trouble free, bar the false engagement. My Superb's DSG works a dream, having done over 50k on it. Not missed a beat. Still trying to convince the missus that I should 'downgrade' to an Octavia vRS. Presently, she is not biting :(

Only one techie question: Is ASG technology different to the normal auot boxes (Not the DSG)

Damo, I see that you drive the sport. General impressions ?

I think, avg1807, that you'd do well to have a bit of a read up on the internet regarding ASG.  As Damo (with an M) :|  says, there's everything you want - and more - both on previous posts here and on other forums (ie. the VW Up!).   By "normal" I guess you mean a torque converter box and a search will quickly show that the ASG isn't anything like a TC box.  It being a single clutch automated manual - as opposed to  the DSG twin clutch automated manual.

The driving experience of an ASG and a DSG and a torque converter box is different in each case - as is the mpg - and all are different again to the CVT type of transmission as  currently favoured by Honda on it's Jazz and Toyota on it's Yaris and other Toyota Hybrid models.

If you dig deeper you'll see  SOME ASG owners complaining of gearbox issues (see Honest John website  for more information too).

The only transmission that owners don't seem to complain about all the time is the TC (the traditional old fashioned type of box)....but they now tend to have been replaced by the others mentioned above due to mpg and emissions reduction.

Spend a little time Googling stuff and you'll be well rewarded.

See post number 2 on this thread > http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/292448-your-favourite-part-of-the-citigo/

Nothing much has changed on my opinion from then.

It has its little faults, and ways it could be improved, but so does every car...

Still love it immensely though, and I think it is the best small car available on the market today.

Thank you both for your insights. For sure, I will spend some time digging out old posts.  I am hell bent on getting the Citigo, after my positive experiance with Superb. It was just that ASG threw me off. You both have a wonderful New Year.

Needless to say, I will be back asking all sorts of mindless questions on Columbus & RSAP compatibility issues. For this issue, I have read quite a bit up :)

Have fun! and thank you once more
