octavia vrs fsi remap

Featured Replies

Hi i am thinking of remapping my octavia vrs fsi. And was wondering how much faster it would be and what it will be like on fule after.

It will be significantly faster. Probably not as fast as the butt dyno will tell you, but still good.

For me fuel economy dropped by 0.5-1l on average.

You'll notice how effective it is when you have to switch back to the std mapping for a few days. Suddenly slowish traffic on a twisty A road becomes a serious impediment to making good progress,; with it you can pass 2-3 cars where one was only previously safe, and can pass cars on shorter straights that with the factory power is prohibitive. I drove back from Shrewsbury to Pembs via Aberystwyth recently on the std setting and it was painful in places. Fuel economy got better too when mapped, by around 2-3 mpg on longer journeys. Just be prepared to wear things out faster!

Ok thanks for that always had diesels in the past and had them remapped with great results just was not sure how good it would be on a petrol.

I would put a stage 1 TSI somewhere around a 330d if you want a diesel comparison, maybe slightly quicker. The issue is torque steer and the general softness and lack of body control that will hamper you.

The TFSI maps nicely. Realistically you're looking at 235 bhp with no supporting mods. With an intake (open) and cat back exhaust (allegedly makes little difference) you should see about 245-250 bhp.

This makes for a nice tool. Considering they weigh anything between 1375-1400 kg's (according to Parkers) the power to weight isn't bad.

My stage 1 FSI made 245bhp, 270bhp at Stage 2 and is now at 319 in its Stage 2 and three quarters hybrid setup. Goes well, drinks fule sic like nobody's business if I press on, otherwise does 31mpg if I am being extremely careful.

That must be a beast of a car its a lot of power from a front wheel drive. Think the stage 1 remap with a cat back milltek will be plenty for me, thanks again for all your help its nice to hear from people that have had the work done.

Yeah it is quick and the way the power is produced means the FWD copes admirably (i.e., as best it can :) )

I think that the majority of the tsi engines make around 250bhp after stage 1 which iirc is due to the bigger fuel pump. Trouble is it shows up how poor the standard dampers are, it's like a trawler in the North Sea.

I am getting a stage 1 remap this month. Is it worth getting an induction kit to go along with the remap, or will it perform just the same running the standard airbox system? Plenty of people have said that the induction kit will make no difference, and others say after a remap adding an induction filter makes it sound "awesome" after a remap. Cant say I have noticed much difference on previous cars I have remapped!

Any ideas?

from my experience you will just get more noise with a remap and open induction kit. I tend to think it makes it sound chavvy, i guess its down to your own tastes.

I had an ITG closed induction kit on my MK2 Fabia Vrs and this didnt add too much noise just a little supercharger whine but it cost over £300.

get a panel filter, you get a little noise with this but its not over the top and it doesn't cost much either.

My car made an increase in 9 bhp and 27 lb-ft of torque after fitting an intake. Now, I do understand that rolling roads are not the most accurate of tools, however, I do think they give a good estimate. This was also noticeable through the 'butt,' dyno. I had a play with a friend on a private stretch of road; he had a modified Zafira GSi Turbo. Before the intake; top end was a slight struggle to pull past him. After the intake the car pulled noticeably harder to the red line, making it noticeably easier too pull past. Previously it felt a bit breathless after 5500 rpm.

Also, you will be informed that an open intake will simply suck in hot air and kill performance. However, the benefits of an open intake is the ability to flow more air; the intercooler will take care of lowering the temperatures. You may lose a bit of torque low down, but mid-range and top end will improve as per my dyno plot.

This was on a stage 1 vRS TFSI.

I do agree with dirty hari and do think to much noise will sound as he puts it "chavvy"

Noise is not what I am wanting, but I do like to hear the Turbo/Wastegate chirp. On previous turbos I have owned fitting an induction kit has amplified the chirp/chatter to my taste, but I don't want to over do it as my Octy is used as a family car too.

If I will benefit from an induction kit then I will fit one, but if its going to turn it noisey and "boy racerish" I wont bother.

Great info Stu08 thanks. What intake did you fit??

No problems. :)

I have a Neuspeed P-Flo with and AmD heat shield around the cone (wanted to see if it made a difference to performance; hence the intercooler comment). It does make a turbo spool noise and it is quite audible. I wouldn't say it sounds 'boy racerish,' especially on a stage 1 map which typically raises peak boost from 8 psi to 14 psi. It definitely turns heads on boost!

However, normal everyday driving it isn't too noisy. I have read up that fitting enclosed intake kits aren't as effective as an open cone style as they can't flow as much. The benefit of the closed intakes are the ability to draw in cooler air. However as mentioned the intercooler takes care of the temperature side of things. There is a question as to whether the cooler air from a closed kit really benefits over an open kit due to the fact the closed kits 'allegedly,' don't flow as well, potentially off-setting the advantage of drawing in cooler air.

Please note I have no quantitative data to disprove either theory; purely what I've read.

The Neuspeed P-Flo seems a popular choice, however the only ones I can find are almost £300. It is used as a family car so I dont want to spend huge amounts of money and was looking into a Pipercross setup, making it myself using silicone hosing and a cold air intake. I would position the filter where the airbox currently sits behind the headlight to minimise Heat soak.

The noise you mention sounds like what I am hoping for, and your information about the intercooler etc matches what I have read on various websites. I am with you and do think open style filters will be more effective.

Didn't know the boost was increased to 14 psi, so again cheers for your info :)

No worries again. :)

I've posted a link in the thread you have started on the subject. It is a link to a P-Flo (like mine) and costs £197.

Cheers man al go have a look :)

Hi all i was thinking to get more bhp from my 2007 mk2 ( pre-facelift ) vRS TFSI i think im gonna get non-res milltek cat back, factory box k&n air filter and stage 1 remap but i don't know what remap to get ( btw i live in Iceland ) can you guys recommend something like off the shelf just plug and play i found a topic on this forum and many were saying that Superchips Bluefin is good for stage 1 but that topic is from 2009, im not gonna go for more i think i just want a little bit more sound of it and maybe 250 bhp if that's possible.
