Heater Blower, Rear Wiper & Washer not working!

Featured Replies

The heater blower, the rear wiper and the rear washer water have all packed up at the same time. All the individual fuses are ok, I have had a look through the wiring diagrams in the Haynes manual looking for something common to all three items, but I couldn't see anything common. Everything else seems to be working fine apart from these three things. Not very helpful what with the cold and all the rain we have had recently.

Anybody suffered a similar problem? Anybody got any tips on what is causing the problem? Many thanks.

I know it sounds strange, but you could just have 2 separate faults here.

ie 1)  rear wiper / washer problem AND 2) heater blower.

even though they have manifested both at the same time.  Is the fuse live to the rear wiper?  Have you probed it?

I have checked at all three fuses and none of them have power to them.  All the other fuses at the fuse box inside the car have got power to them apart from the 40A blower fuse (fuse 40), the two 15A wiper and washer fuses (fuses 41 & 42) and oddly the 5A light fuse (fuse 49).  Although, all the lights appear to be working correctly.

When the probelm(s) first appeared, my wife told me that a fuse might need replacing because the blower, wiper & washer had stopped working.  It struck me as odd that three different things would all stop working at the same time.  So, I checked the relevant fuses and they were all ok.  I then checked the blower, wiper & washer and they all worked (perhaps I should have exercised them all before checking the fuses, but I didn't).  I reported back to my wife that they were all working fine, no problem.  However, the next morning (yesterday morning) all three had stopped working again.  Hence, my original post.

How easy is it to get at the relays and where are they?

Thanks.

Hi, I can't remember which one is the "X Relief Relay", but it definitely fixed the problem.  I had it done at our local Skoda dealer when it was serviced.  Hence, I don't know which one it is.  However, a search on Google shows the X Relief Relay to be a large square black item and I have just watched a video on youtube that shows where the fuses and relays are on an Octavia and there is a large black item in the fuse/relay box under the bonnet.  The relay cost £9.56 + VAT, but it cost £81 + VAT to diagnose the problem, even though I told them what the problem was, only I couldn't find the relay.

Hope this helps.

Got an invoice still? have a look on there and it'll at least give the part number then there's a possibility it'll only refer to one of the relays in the box under the hood.

Hi all, new to this forum. Been reading the threads for a while now as have an Octavia 1.9tdi 2008.

Ive had the same fault as others, ie

No Blower fan

No screenwash to front

No screenwash or wiper to rear.

Checked all fuses and all good.

Called a few garages and all 'need to have a look'.

Everything went off one morning then came on mid journey to work.

Fine for 2 weeks and then off again.

Ive looked online but cant find exactally what this so called 'X relief relay', a part number or where it is located.

I have however, stripped down my dash under the steering wheel (folowing a different thread off here) and came accross the bank of relays.

Theres about 8 on mine, luckily there was 2 of each different one. So i just swapped 2 at a time to see what worked and didnt when I turned the ignition on.

Hey presto, a faulty relay.

Part number:

1k0 951 253a

460 on the top.

New one cost me £16 and all sorted. Eventually.

Hope this helps someone out there as its been driving me mad for the past 5 days!!!
