What is this...

Featured Replies

In my quest to find the source of my really annoying water leak i have discovered this....

Its all corroded and falling appart. I dont think its the source of the leak but i dont think its helping either. Its metal on top ( think its part of the floor pan) but has a rubber grommit underneath, you can see it in this photo because the metal is/has started to rust away ....

Should i just weld a plate over the top of it.

It looks like some sort of sound deadening matt thats stuck down to the floor pan in the factory, but it looks like yours is going brittle and breaking down a bit around the rubber/plastic grommet.  IMO

Where abouts is that?

Left hand side of the drivers footwell.  What you can see in the 1st pic is when the centre console should be (gearstick etc).

Don't think its a matt as its metal.

A bit more context

Hummmm, is it the same kinda thing as the holes in the boot? Mines got 3 that look the same as that, no metal over them just 3 holes with rubber bungs in. I pop them out to jetwash the spare wheel well lol.

It is just tar type sound deadening mate on top of the metal, there are rubber bungs under it that go thru the floor. if you dig into it with a screwdriver you will see it's not metal I have just removed all 8 kgs of it from my rally car floor pan.

Really. I thought it was metal and that it had corroded leaving the rubber bung exposed. What should i do with it then. Should i cover it back up with something equally as tar like or just leave it. I just dont need any more water coming in thats all, dont want to go through a puddle and have to spend 3 days drying out the car. Thanks.

Just leave it.  It's sound deadening.

Have you sealed up all your inner door panels and checked that the front window isn't leaking?

Doors are all fine, not too sure what you mean when you say window though. The water is coming from behind the panel that has the bonnet release handle on it.

Mine did the same.  The windscreen was leaking at the side and the water was running down the A pillar into the floor.

It looks like the top half off the car is dry, its just the lower half. I'll hopefully know more once i get the bonnet release panel off.

Taking the A pillar off is the easy way of checking if the water is getting in past the screen.
