Fan started when switch off the ignation

Featured Replies

Hello,

I faced with the following problem. After a long trip when I stop with my car and stop the engine, the fan started to rotate very fast. It makes in the garage but on the street too in 5 Celsius. It is very intresting because the water is in normal 90 Celsius. So I dont understand why it is started to rotate.

Do You have any idea, what is wrong?

Thanks ahead

Thomas

If its a diesel, it could be trying to complete a particulate filter (DPF) regeneration. The fan comes on to cool everything down if it can't finish (because you have stopped the car).

Take it for a run at a steady 1800 - 2000rpm for 20 - 30 mins to allow it to start and complete its regeneration. It needs the steady revs for a while or it won't complete the regen properly. 1800 - 2000 rpm seems to be the optimum range. You don't need to welly it.

Check the coolant level too just to be sure its ok.

As he says - It is the overrun to complete the DPF regen, i have had this once myself,  I just waited for it to finish ( approx 3 mins after stopping) then left thr car.

It has been OK since - No DPF light came on like when i had the Fiat, Also I did RTFM to verfiy this is what happened.

From experience I would disagree with the comment around running speed to perform the regen,  Info from the Fiat Techs when i had issues with my Fiat, & also from lots of previous posts when DPF's 1st appeared, + overhearing a conversation at my local skoda dealers to a customer, All say that the car should be run at around a constant 3000rpm, in 3rd gear ( any higher & you could be breaking speed limits ;) )  for around 15 -20 miles or till the light goes out ( ususall yellow coil on the dash).

My Fiat took 50 miles running at 60 on Motorway running at approx 2-2500 rpm.

Hello,

Thanks, but my car is a Octavia 2 2005 1,6(BGU) MPI Ambiente. This car doesn't contain DPF filter. In the car there is a dual zone Climatronic. As I know it has two vent, so maybe this problem connects to the clima? This is just a guess.

Any other tip?

Which fan are you talking about? The engine fan, or one that blows air into the cabin as part of the Climatronic system?

  • 2 weeks later...

How long does the fan run for after the engine is turned off?

The best thing to do is to scan the car for fault codes, this will help to identify if there is a problem. Do you know anyone with a code reader or VCDS?

It bepends on the temperature. Today it tooks circa 15-20 seconds in 8 degrees,, but in a very high speed.

Maybe the smaller vent is wrong? I read somewhere that with running engine when I started a clima system, all two fan should rotate in a slow rotation, but in my car only the bigger fan started.

How can I try the small fan?

I know a service where they can read the fault codes.
