radiator fan stayed on even after turning off the car?

Featured Replies

Today, the radiator fan stayed on even after turning off the car for about 4-5 minutes(after stop the car) and then the fan stop, the temperature of the car has not changed 90 degrees, even the temperature of oil rose from 95 degrees, and the temperature ambient is around 12 degrees, but I noticed a smell of burning rubber on the outside of the car when the radiator fan was on. I noticed that the car was the relentin with higher revs at about 1000 rpm, when the normal is 700-800 rpms. What could it be?

Diesel? If so it was a regen of the DPF and nothing to worry about.

the smeel of burning rubber is normal too?? or something is burning in the motor because i interrupet a dpf regen

thanks to all....

Read the post I sent you in #4 above

The hot smell you noticed is normal if you interupt a regen because the ECU injects diesel into the cylinders after ignition to increase the temperature in the DPF to perform an active regen. This makes the DPF very hot so if you switch off your engine when its doing a regen the DPF is still very hot which is why the fans then come on to cool it down. Active regens occur when the soot reaches a certain level or every 1000km if no active regen has been performed so in reality this is probably the second one and you didn't notice the first because it completed it while you were driving.

The burning smell does seem to get less noticeable as the car ages.

thanks to all..

No worries mate. Good job you didn't ask your question in Portuguese otherwise we'd be no use to you as we wouldn't understand.

Enjoy your Skoda

To be fair, if you are not used to diesels and regens the first time you experience this it does give a bit of a fright.

Posting here has saved the chap a trip to the dealer.

Didnt think my owners manual mentioned anything about this. Will have to check.

Its the worst manual ive come across. Poorly worded, poorly laid out. A lot is left out.

Turn a few pages back, there's a section "Diesel particle filter (diesel engine)" in the "Warning icons in the display" chapter.

James, having read a lot of your posts I've gotta ask, Is there anything about your car you do like ?

Sorry to be so blunt but, you do come across a little negative.

I'm wondering if the Skoda diesel is set up to do more active generations than in other cars in order to decrease the chances of blocking the dpf. My guess is it takes around a 70% blockage to trigger the warning light on the dash.

I'd be interested in knowing how often people are getting the light on the dash?

In my previous diesel motor which I owned for 2 years the light came on a couple of times, but I don't remember interrupting an active generation when switching off the engine as many times in the first couple of months of ownership as with this Skoda. 4 or 5 interruptions so far, no dash lights yet though.

One of the better salesmen I spoke to when shopping arond for my Skoda did say the power recovered from the engine recovery system did go into DPF Regen's and other electrical usage so, you maybe onto something, Jonny.

I didn't buy my Skoda from him though, he knew how to price in his favor and not mine :'(

I don't recall my 170CR Superb II ever doing a regen. It did have a dpf warning light a couple of times, once was when the dpf sensor had failed so it effectively gave a false alarm, the second was a poorly turbo so it triggered the warning light along with at least two others, the dash lit up like a Christmas tree!

Mr themanwithnoaim.

Aplogies if negative comments are not allowed on this forum. Allow me to give myself a slapped wrist, and tell myself off. I just assumed the truth was better than a lie though. But hey, if you want me to be like a dealer.

So, being me, these are the pros and cons I can recall mentioning about the car

Pros:

Lovely engine which accelerates so smoothly.

Lovely smooth gearbox which is very difficult to make jerk about

Nice interior which is simply laid out, and so far very solid.

Gorgeous smooth steering wheel which i cant stop rubbing, its so smooth.

A fantastic motorway cruiser which is very quiet (hey, i even had someone disagree a little with me over the motorway cruiser part)

A very good looking car, which looks fantastic as the bonnet stretches out in front of you as you speed along the motorway.

Plus, I also mentioned the only other car i would consider buying is a Jaguar XF. Is that not a very big compliment??

Cons:

Very stiff suspension (but I put this down to the car being new, and i have admitted it seems to be getting better)

A cruise control system which is not as natural or as easy to use as the Ford system.

Ive also mentioned that my coolant level has dropped, and may possibly be leaking.

Is there any other cons ive mentioned which ive left out? Sorry, but the manual isnt the car. That is seperate. But yes, the manual is quite poor, and an unproffesional publication.

From what i can see, I have come out with more pros than i have cons. I have frequently sung the praises of the car as a motorway cruiser, despite the poor suspension up to this point.

Anyway, I now understand it was very wrong of me to mention any cons, so now please allow me to turn into a dealer (any manufacturers dealer), just to keep you happy:

Oh My Lordz. The car is absolutely amazingly fantastic. The thrash is god dam awesome. I cant stop the orgasmic pleasure every time i see it. Its so god dam awesome I cannot understand why every individual does not own an Octavia. There is just no point in any other manufacturers existing.

There is not a single thing wrong with the car. It is amazingly perfect at every single thing. My god, it even flies to the moon and back. Wow, just wow. I just wish I could have 100 Octavias in my drive. I just cant stop myself.

Hopefully in that last paragraph there are no negative comments. Hopefully that pleases both yourself, and Neil, who some how seems to like your post.

Again, I do beg your forgiveness for even daring to say the Octavia and the manual that comes with it has some faults. I really should know better.

That's one big paragraph!
