Fabias outside of warranty or trade up

Just looking to see how people have got with fabias that our now outside of their warranty particularly if you running the first Of TSI (10 plates). How have the dealer been with problems fault finding etc to they help in keep cost reasonable if there have been issues etc etc

My montes hits it 3yrs on April and bit undecided what to do atm.

My options are really. Keep a lil longer till ive run down more of finance and see what crack is in terms of whats out there to buy. (Hence why im interested how people have got on with them) normally ive had older cars and if a problem arises me and/or colleagues/mates tinker and fault find (i work in motor trade).

But bring relatively new and paying finance on it id rather not resort to things like that lol

On the other hand very tempted to trade in for a VRS as i no longer compete so the lower consumption wouldn't be issue.

But then again i like the look of the new rapid spaceback :/. But again both these choices depends on how the money works once i figure out the finance side of things blah blah blah.

The only one option i know i could defentaly afford would be a Citigo, but I would only go for that if the girlfriend decided to get her licence, as if she did theres is no point us having two cars cos i have a van for work so she may as well use the car when im not, that way saves us trying to run two cars.

If you have recently traded in your Fabias will be interesting to know why and for what.

I had wished i got a VRS to start with but at the time of buying there was two cars in front on the forecourt i could afford a red monte and a green VRS and i went for monte purely on the Running cost as i was commuting at the time :( lol

If you are going to run one past the 3 years old, i would get a 'Skoda 2 Year Extended Warranty',

(if the car has not been Mapped. because that would invalidate it.)

£547 and piece of mind.

 

It will be interesting to see what they offer you as a trade in,

newer ones are being offered for sale with asking prices around £7,000

 

I wonder if they will even offer £6,000-£6500 if you are trading in.

Is it a '60 plate' or a '11 Plate'.?

This is whould be intresting to see as aug 2012 my 11 plate monte was advertised at £10200 but time we discussed terms on part ex and price etc i thing my finace was for 8-9k so im now coming up to 18months of 5year term so i think trading in may do me more harm than good anyways. As im not sure the part ex cost would cover the settlment and the give me a half decent deposit for a replacement unless i look at a 2nd hand one again (ruling out the rapid)

I will give the extended warranty some thought as that maybe the ideal option for me currently.

When ive discussed this people tried telling me to look outside of skoda. But from what ive seen and heard those warranty arent worth the paper they are printed on.

You can buy the 'Skoda Approved Extended Warranty at a Skoda Dealership',  on a car 3 years old or older,

(i think up to 6 years old, and i am not sure on the Maximum Mileage at time of purchase, i have unlimited Mileage covereage)

 

you just need to find the person in the Dealership that wants the Commission for selling you it.

 

1 year £399, 2 year £547 back in October.

Different Prices show on the List of Options for just 'Warranty' or 'Warranty & Skoda Assist'.

My experience is that part ex prices for Fabias are depressingly low and not worth trading in. The Vrs is probably better as there seems a good demand.

My vrs goes 3year old in march and I'm already thinking of chopping it in for either a new vrs estate or a mk3 octy vrs hatch,not because I don't trust it's reliability I just get bored after 2 years lol

I wouldn't have the VRS without a Skoda warranty, purely because of the potential oil usage issues (and knock on to things like the cat convertor and sensors) and DSG complexity.

If I am honest, I'd say that 1.5 years into a 5 year finance deal you have a car that has already depreciated quite a bit. So you probably don't have a huge amount of equity.

If you trade into another car it's just going to cost you money as there will be a cost to change and more finance to take out.

If you don't use the car as much now you would probably be better with an older car that's hardly losing money or sticking with the Monte.

I guess it depends how much money you want to borrow to fund depreciation.

Because that is effectively what you are doing when you borrow a high percentage of a new (or nearly new) car, pay finance charges and watch the value of the car tumble.

The finance charges on a 5 year deal must make the total cost payable well over what you borrowed.

Maybe you'd be better off if you don't use the car a lot with a £2k-£3k Fabia to supplement your work van. Ditch the monthly payments and long term financial burden and have more in your pocket?

I thouht about about seeiing how much the settlement fee and compare how much it will sell for 2nd hand and see what im left and as you say perhaps go older, like a Mk2 Octavia VRS.

With my work van i dont use it privately rto avoid paying tax. So its purely to get me to work and back. The fabia still does a reasonable amout of work.

I guess i see my current situation as a chance to have a more preformance based car as the MPG isnt really factor anymore.

Due to the running costs, a more performance based car will probably lose a fair amount a value.

So you could pick up an older one like an Octy VRS as you say.

 

It'd also mean you have less debt and monthly payments, so possibly win-win if you live close enough to work that the fuel use isn't an issue.

If you spent 10k + finance (maybe £13k?) on the Fabia you could get something decent for about half that or less if you buy an older car.

 

Without wanting to pry into your finances, if you borrowed heavily to buy the Fabia with a minimal deposit I'd just make sure you have a bit put aside in case any repairs are needed to a replacement when buying out of warranty.

I used my old corsa as a part ex by the time we worked out the part ex cost and the price the fabia the actual finance as taken was on £8k

Crash, on the point about warranties. Warranty Direct offered me a one year deal with their gold plated policy which covers everything for £245 haggled down from £300. They haggle on two year deals. I got my TDI Fabia Estate covered for £375 on a two year deal! But that was the Silver cover which didn't cover aircon. It's worth looking into as the gold one covers everything the Skoda warranty covers plus a bit more with wear and tear items for less money. They have a brilliant reputation too for paying out when needed. I speak from personal experience. 

Would be tempted to keep the car you have if it's proving reliable, as others have said trade in values are not the best. Took out the Skoda 5 year warranty with our Monte TSI from new, as we intend to run it as long as it's financially viable to do so regard maintenance costs.

This is option im seriously considering Plumber as tbh bar a spring snapping on a handbrake shoe the fabia hasnt put a foot wrong yet and its on 42,000 miles.

Best bit about a car out of warranty is that providing you inform your insurers you can make whatever changes you fancy to it.

 

My shopping list would start with some very cheap adjustments to improve the handling, this little car has the potential to be immensely entertaiing in this regard.  This might satisfy some of those vRS cravings.

 

You can get the 1.2tsi remapped I believe now or at the least a tuning box, DIY vRS :)
