insulation eaten by mice

Featured Replies

Hi

I live in the Highlands and in the country. The local mice are targetting the foam insulation under the big plastic engine cover of my diesel Scout. The little devils have chewed the foam into small granules which lie in the recesses of the injectors. In addition they have started chewing the fabric tape sleeving around the injector wires. I've beefed up the tape with self-annealing rubber tape and sprayed the remaiming foam liner with WD 40 to see if this puts them off. I doubt it somehow.

Any ideas anyone?

Mice traps / poison

Plug in electronic deterrants.

Last resort - get  a cat! A very hungry one!

You could say mice have a good taste for cars.

But yeah best bet would probably be put some poison down for them.

Insulated mice, hmmmmm.....

I'd be going down the trap route myself - perhaps in your engine bay when it's sat, that way you might get the Skrodent!

My CRX came with a built in mouse nest in the rear cubby hole.  Made up of under carpet sound deadening and the plastic wrap of my toolkit case.  Didn't smell very nice and it's still lingering 11 months later, little feckers  :@

I would'nt be putting any traps in the engine bay as it would be easy to forget in a rush/brain fart. Stick them under the car.

I had the same problem with my motorbike last winter as well as a few local mice and a large rat setting up home in the garage!  Loads of poison, traps and an electronic deterrent and not seen anything since (also a bit of a clear up).  If the car is kept outside makes it a bit more difficult, possible a change of approach and maybe make something more attractive for them close by where they would go to rather than the car.

don't put poison down mice have a nasty habit of dieing somewhere you can't get them like in your car and they will stink it out!

We just threw out piles of dry food from our (integral) garage, first time despite storing it the re for years. Been using a humane trap fro Amazon. Got three of 'em so far. I need to fill the gap under the up and under door but can't see any other access.
