Brake Upgrade for vRS

Featured Replies

I'd always thought the standard brake setup on the vRS is powerful enough for me....

.... until I tried some really spirited driving across Romney Marsh in Kent. Lovely road with long straights and the occasional s-bend for those of you who don't know it - oh and not much traffic! :D

I think I found the safe limit of the standard brakes and it was a bit of a shock as they are usually a bit on the sharp side.

I was thinking either Ferodo DS2500s or EBC Greenstuff pads for starters as I think the standard discs are OK for now. Question is, where do I get them from. I've checked Demon Tweeks and they don't appear to have the Ferodos for the vRS and the whilst the EBCs are listed for the 20v Turbo again there is no mention of the vRS.

Any suggestions?

James

Demon Tweeks do, do the DS2500...you need to talk to our contact, Dave Poole, and get yourslef a 10% discount.

I haven't heard anything good about the EBC Greenstuff pads.

Alternatively you should have a look for the Pagid pads on offer on the site...do a search...can't remember where it is exactly. :o

Hello James  do you remember a little trip out once in a 4x4 Octy at Maidstone?

well, the technology behind your nose hitting the windscreen was nothing more than DS2500 pads :D HTH.

Cheers guys!

Yes I do remember that little blat on the outskirts of Maidstone, Simon! That's what got me thinking about the Ferodo DS2500s. Hey, maybe one of these days we'll get to another meet - everytime a date is set one of us is working :(

So a set of Ferodos and some 225s as opposed to 205s should be a good start to improving handling and braking.

aye...

i heard from someone that went to the EBC factory that if you saw how the Greenstuff pads are made you wouldnt poke them with someone else's poo covered stick.

saying that i ran them on my R19 16v for a while and they were ok. i wouldnt say they'd be a match for the standard pads on the vRS though.

if you like waiting for pads to warm up before actually working, then greenstuff are top dogs.

i had a couple of near misses with them, they came out the very next weekend, into the bin,i have used pagids ever since.50 quid for the front set from awesome (this was a GB offer).

i understand the ferrodo's are exellent but i just didn't have the 100 or so quid at the time .
