Right rear door and trunk wet

Featured Replies

Hey there,

I've noticed that my windscreen fogs up for pretty much no reason. Yesterday I've notice that the right rear door was kind of wet and was some water in the plastic where the door closes (but the floor didn't seem wet( and the trunk carpet is wet there too. Recently I've gotten that door window mechanism fixed. What do you think is happening? Door membrane broke? I've got a 98 MkI with a sunroof.

Sorry for my english.

Could well be the door membrane.  Take off the door trim and have a look.

Also work checking all 4 sunroof drains work. Easiest way is to open the sunroof and slowly pour some water into each corner of the rails.  If the car is parked on the level it should dribble out of the 4 drainage holes (A-pillars & behind rear wheels)

I've just tested the sunroof drainage and it seems to be the culprit. Every single corner drains like there is no tomorrow, and that one drained, I don't know, 0.5L when I poured 1.5L and it showed up near the rear seatbelt and flooded the boot right by the taillight (the car was in a small slope)! Any tips on how to fix this?

Thanks!

On the estate (guess it will be similar on the hatch) for the rear there is a blue pipe (per side) which is pushed into a rubber bung.  this is located behind the rear wheel arch where the CD changer (if fitted) is located.  The blue pip may well not be pushed into the bung and might be draining into the boot/rear of the car.

When possible, I'll check it out. Also, after posting here, I've noticed for the 1st time that the headliner just above the seat belt is wet. Do you still think it is what you are saying? Do you have pictures of the pipe so I can try to understand the logic of the system?

Thanks :)

If the headlining is wet, then the drainage pipe may well have become detached from the sunroof assembly....

It's "fixed" with some duct tape around the sunroof. I'll fix it properly in the summer. :) Thanks for the help!
