Oil change advise

Featured Replies

Hi all

Am looking to do an oil change on my 2008 1.4 tdi roomster. These days I really don't fancy being on the floor removing the sump plug as these day we need to remove the tray rather than have direct access to the sump.

Was wondering what people thought of these vacuum pumps that you put a tube down the dip stick and suck it out. Also I know you can't use if you have baffles in the sump so did not know if the roomster had these?

Any advise here would be good

thanks

Glenn

Some people swear by them because they are quicker and easy to use,

personally I prefer for the oil to drain naturally as you have more chance of getting any crap in the sump out at the same time.

Yes I do what the garages do ,suck it out and pour it in.Less mess and fuss.Only spillage you have to watch is from the oil filter.I think mine was about £60,and money well spent. Before then I used a railway sleeper cut in half with ends bevelled as ramps to drain sump. But the Roomster is lower than my other cars, and there,s the fiddle of taking the sound baffle tray off under the diesel engine.

I have a PD engine so it has to be top quality PD oil, about £20+ from internet plus filter say about £4

Just get a big plastic oil drain pan (about 18" across) & use a can of Wynns engine flush and follow the instructions on the back. Leave it to drain for over 1hr (I do it over lunch time).............you will be amazed at the amount of crud that comes out at that you can get 98% of the max oil stated back in the engine!........just pumping from above is bad for the long term health of the engine....................it's nice & quick tho............
