Wing Mirror

Featured Replies

Just had our offside wing mirror smashed by a direct hit from a pheasant.  Any recommendations as to how to replace this/ where to buy the parts etc., and its colour matched to the car of course!

Is it completely trashed?

I was in a dealers recently and they had a customer in who was asking about door mirrors and was quoted an horrific price for a complete one. He was then told that many of the parts are available separately and individually priced.

TP will probably come up soon with all the details, he does a good job at that.

Just been to have another look and indeed much of the mirror is there!   It appears that the mirror adjustment pad works OK as does the indicator section.  Perhaps these bits can be reused? The front mirror is missing and the upper portion of te rear shell is gone. the lower portion with the indicator light os theer but maybe the plastic clips have sheared.

I would attach some photos but this looks a pain on this website having to get a URL for each.  I edit a website and don't have this system at all for uploading photos!

You can add photos straight from your desktop using the "attach files" option.  You'll find this in the "More Reply Options" section when replying.

BobbyG79 - Thanks for informing me of the Reply Options box & its contents. On my website that I run the Image link opens the dialogue box via the toolbar!

Anyway I now attach the photos.

That looks like you just need the top cover and glass.

I hope you are correct. In addition the rear colour matched shell has gone. Maybe the guts can be retained OK

I'd be tempted to replace both sides in gloss black on a silver Yeti

Apologies but I think there is a little more broken, as by looking at the pics the rear frame appears to have separated from the lower front section containing the indicator. The two torx screws that can be seen at the bottom of the mirror housing aperture should fix the frame to the lower housing, so I suspect the lugs have snapped off :(

Parts breakdown can be found here (in Russian, so need google translate);

Will throw up the workshop guide in a minute; need to take some screen shots.

I'm in a similar situation - rather than a pheasant, I think the pheasant plucker or his son parked very close by and managed to snap off the n/s mirror instead of folding it in towards the car 'cos it's snapped from the black plastic bit that joins it to the main body of the car (hope that makes sense).  Sinclair Skoda reckon it's not fixable and have quoted nearly £300 to replace (no mention of parts being available separately).  Mirror and top cover are fine, indicator works, too, but I can't remember whether the n/s mirror dipped at night to dull down the reflection of car headlights behind (like the rear view mirror and o/s wing mirror do).  It doesn't any more.  It's wrapped and held on with clear shrink wrap and gaffer tape - TP's suggestion of a good bonding cement looks like something to try before shelling out £300.

Well my dealer quoted over £250 but then found he could reuse some of the undamaged a.d required lower. On collecting the car the bill was around £150 and less than his revised quote as he used even more of the existing!

As far as I know, the external dipping function is restructed to the driver's mirror, not the passenger. That's certainly the case on my 2010 Elegance.

As for repair, it might be worth looking at www.wingmirrorman.co.uk or wingmirrorshop.co.uk (as per Daily Telegraph 18/1/14) for advice & possibly saving a bit of dosh! (Other repair services may also be available!)

Thanks, John, for clarifying the dipping/non-dipping n/s mirror.  I'll have a look at both links, too.  Were they in the Honest John section?  We usually get the Telegraph on a Saturday (for Honest John and the general knowledge crossword in the Weekend section) but the previous week's main section was so tabloidy we decided not to buy.

Honest John... yes you are correct! Jan 18 edition of Telegraph Motoring.

I've not looked, but I'd suspect that you can also go on-line to read items featured in his section, in the week after publication, as he does sometimes rather abruptly refer people to his website when they repeat the same questions he's already answered!.  Good luck with the mirrors
