MkII Octavia vRS Residuals

I've had two petrol vRS's bought from under my nose recently, which has made me a bit more determined to get my mitts on a decent example. I don't do the miles anymore (max of 10 a day, to and from work) to justify keeping the Golf. It's just about to crack 101,000 and I've had no major issues with the dpf yet...but that can't be too far away, so maybe time to bail out and go petrol again for the first time in years.

A petrol vRS ticks all the boxes, pretty much, for me. I'm just wondering about the residual value. I figure I'll get a vRS Mk2 with under 40,000 miles, keep it for three years and get rid at around 70,000 miles. I'm looking to spend around £11K, and I reckon in 3 years it'll be worth around £6k, losing me about £5K in the process.

I think a petrol vRS is a good, sensible choice. This seems to be backed up by the fact decent examples in my part of the world don't hang around too long, regardless of the type of fuel they use..!!

All depends on how you plan on parting with it. If you have time for a private sale then you will see best return. I've heard of a couple of petrol owners being offered silly trade in prices though.

We got a 10 plate with 14k miles on it and plenty of toys (though no BT or nav) for £11k middle of last year so they are about.

Interestingly looking at Skodas website the differences between TSI and TDI vRS's isn't that great at the moment- looks like you can get similar cars for the same sort of money though the TDIs have more miles on them.

There's a black TSI DSG in Newton abbot with only 36k on the clock with 2 years free servicing for 11.5k

suit you sir?

Trade-in values are appalling for the petrol.

2yr ago when my car was 4yr old with 50k on the clock I wasn't getting offered over £5k. That was despite similar cars being on the forecourt for anything up to £11k.

Dealers just don't want large petrol engines without a BMW, Audi or Merc badge.

I think people who dont do a big annual mileage & all the public horror storys about dpf's etc are slowly going back to buying petrols now,my boss who was always a diesel fan has now bought a petrol golf after the dpf went faulty & then the turbo went which then took out his engine on his volvo v50. He only does around 8k of local driving a year. Id rather have a petrol vrs than a diesel one & i cover around 11k a year.

Got offered trade in £4k for my petrol vrs 56plate 75k on the clock.

Daylight robbery!!

Thats not that bad a offer to be honest, its a 5k car at a dealer, its still a lot of car for the money though,at 4k id be keeping it for a good few years yet,i intend to run my 2008 mk2  vrs for another 10 years+ if it doesnt start to cost silly money to repair or run.

You are in a good position, selling a derv Golf and buying a petrol Octavia vRS.

As has been seen in a few recent threads all MkII Octavia residuals have started to drop away now that the MkIII is becoming established.

What with the slow start to the year in terms of used car sales I'd say you could pick yourself up a brgain - if you're quick enough!

Interesting feedback from the petrol guys. I was (stupidly) assuming that because the dealers were selling both petrol and diesel for around the same price the trade in price they offered would be similar- seems thats not the case so my mis.

Not really depending on when you got that valuation, ..today CAP values your car as-

Trade In Clean £3,325 - £3,525

Trade In Average £2,950 - £3,150

Trade In Below. £2,600 - £2,750

if you are driving a max of 10 miles a day how are you going to cover 30K miles in 3 years? 10 miles/day = 3650/year, even if you work 7 days a week, so less than 11K miles in 3 years.

My maths is fine mate....you didn't think I use a car purely to go to and from work? No....there is of course - what the insurers call - the SD & P element ;-)

Forgot to mention...what looks to be a nice 2010 vRS hatch in race blue with 33k on the clock has just turned up, not too far from me, for £11k. Can't get to see it before Friday afternoon. From what I can tell, thats not a bad price. But I'll still try to get a few hundred off. Here's hoping...

Sorry.  I made the mistake of believing your statement of, "I don't do the miles anymore (max of 10 a day, to and from work)".  So you actually do another 7½K miles a year.  Or is that 10 miles to work and 10 miles back from work so only another 5K miles a year?  Just joking, I don't really care.  So it is not really a 'lack' of driven miles that is generating your wish to change your car, more a fear of a possible big bill in the near future.  An excellent reason to change cars is because you just want to.  I hope you enjoy whatever car you decide to purchase.

Best colout too!

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Cheers peeps, if I cut a deal on what appears to be a little beauty, I will let you know.

Freedom....I do 10 miles a day in total, during the working week, to and from work (5 miles each way). The Golf gets the occasional quick blast down the motorway at weekends, but even then its probably not long enough. No, in general, my driving habits do not lend themselves to a modern diesel with a DPF. I love the way the Golf goes, but time for a change methinks. The drop in MPG might be difficult but I'll give it a go.

Drove a vRS petrol the other week...salesman said very little on the drive...but then again, he didn't need to.

Its an 8 year old car at the end of the day!

I thought £4k for a 56 was pretty good considering some of the offers I've had over the years.

Petrol one? If so they seem to be holding value not too bad. Mine is just over 3 years old now and I bought it when it was 16months old and had 20k miles on it for just under 13.8k. Probably paid a bit more as it had a good spec - xenons, maxidot, acoustic park, spare wheel and was really clean.

Yes, its a petrol. It seems to have the rear parking sensors, maxidot, cruise etc etc can't wait to see it, let alone take it for a spin...
