  • Most ships have very little adjustment on their camber, caster and toe.

How do you get that information from SUK direct? My order form doesn't appear to have any unique reference number on it at all!

Makes it even funnier. Mines the same without the heated nozzles and with black pack and sat nav - hardly ground breaking options...

I'm tracking the ship now...

Thames Highway docks at 8am tomorrow..!!

It may be on it...with any luck

I should have ordered a hovercraft with all the flooding around  :rain:  :giggle:

Ships dock, not land :P

As far as I know, all VAG cars are imported through Grimsby. They have built a new terminal there this year to facilitate more cars coming in there.

There is no rhyme nor reason and thats what makes it all the more shambolic really.

I'm lucky Ill have only waited 9 or 10 weeks. I don't actually see a problem with people waiting far longer than that for a new car, as long as theyre told what the wait is with a reasonable degree of accuracy.

I think it's pretty obvious to anyone with a reasonable and dispassionate standpoint though that if 2 people can order basically the same vehicle 2 months apart, and one be quoted 3 months and then waits 5 and another gets quoted 3 months and waits 2 that the stystem isn't working very well!

Don't forget dealer quotas come in to play as well, if the dealer has already hit their quota then it may be a few weeks before they can place your order on the system ......

Sent from my phone so please excuse brevity and spelling

This is I suspect what causes a lot of the slippage for some people.

In which case the dealers themselves stand accused of playing it a little bit fast and loose - which doesn't sound to me like the sort of thing a car salesman would do........

Car-carrier ships are huge slab-sided things, with these very strong southerlies I'm wondering if they'll stay tied up in port until the wind abates; trying to navigate a big boxy thing through a slippery substance in a very strong crosswind.....it's probably the un-docking and docking at the other side that's the most hazardous bit.  Watched one slipping very quietly down the Tyne in Dec 12, guess laden with Nissans, like a multi-storey carpark moving at 5mph and showing just one red, one green and one white light to the front, yikes, trust the Shields Ferry crew keep their eyes peeled and VHF on loud.

PS, serves you all right for buying new toys, I've only ever bought used cars, but then that's a whole fresh can of worms....!

PPS only joking!

@ Skodanorman. A lot of VAG cars come through Sheerness. Certainly those for us Southern Softies! Im guessing Grimsby is for the even softer Northerners?!!!

SUK confirmed the order date, it was about a day after I physically signed the paperwork in the dealership.

Maybe they all cover for each other, right now I can't be arsed to dig too deeply into it all - the whole experience has been annoying and not something I plan to repeat if I can at all help it...

@ RichardatWakefield. Once at sea the wind is less of a problem. Its the movement caused by the sea/ swell. Southerlies down where they are will cause little problem as the fetch is quite short. If they are able to depart the berth safely, then they will (its not like they are entering extreme winds out at sea). Whether they can berth in Sheerness is another problem, but not one that will effect whether they depart from Emden. I cant see much of a problem though. Winds arent that bad here, and there are a few tugs available at Sheerness.

The Thames Highway has left Emden................................... Is it full of VAG vehicles, and if so, who's the lucky ones?????????????

Called Skoda moments ago. week 51, car still at port, when asked whether it is on the Thames Highway was told it isn't.

The City of Rome has also left, but is says destination "TYNE" so no dice.

Wahey!

my car was bw51

spoke to suk at noon they said at port still

dealer just called its on the boat..!!

So thats one persons car onboard and one whos isnt. Just another 2 people here who are possiblities.

Now, how can I close Sheerness Port!!!

Apparently VAG have so many cars coming over here, they usually take up a whole ship. I take it they have a deal with a shipping company to charter the whole ship for a single crossing.

Not the same ship though i dont think. The Thames Highway's last port before Emden was somewhere in the Baltic.

Anyone know how frequently VAG have sailings?
