Ship tracking

Featured Replies

The next vessel from the same company is approaching Emden. VW seem to have their own berths. So if the African Highway (next vessel) goes to the same berth (or next to it) as the Thames Highway, then chances are thats also going to be full of VAG vehicles.Dont know if VAG ship their vehicles from Emden to anywhere else in Europe? (its only a European operator)

  • Most ships have very little adjustment on their camber, caster and toe.

No and not any of the ones like front assist/acc etc which the dealers have been offering as excuses for delays due to parts shortages.   There is no rhyme nor reason and thats what makes it all the

Edit- The African Highway has gone to a totally different part of the port. So assume no VAG vehicles for that one.

A lot of shipping has been negatively effected by these poor weather conditions but if there is one thing ships don't like doing it it is stopping. So if there is a way, then the ships will sail. A couple of tugs on each end and they should berth. Certainly, they won't stay tied up for fears of not getting alongside in the UK - they'd sail over and anchor if they really had it.

Precisely. It'll cost money to stay alongside in Emden. Anyway, the winds isnt that bad right now.

Ships dock, not land :p

So, Do you Drive a boat, sail it, pilot it,  whats the correct term for  " Driving a boat "  Are boats " Ships " . what determines a ship/boat

CONFUSED, Totally

A boat is a smaller craft. A ship is bigger. Once its made out of steel it generally becomes a ship. Technically you sail and/or pilot a ship. Quite okay to say you drive it though.

Please don't ask me to explain all nautical phrases...

@ Goldfinger. A boat is something small. A pleasure craft. But usually these small craft have other terms as well, so its pretty much a generic term for small craft. When it comes to vessels of the size we are talking. They are Ships. Not boats. The term 'vessel' covers everything. So this term could also be used. But not a Boat. That makes me think of a little fishing boat or something like that. Also, you dont drive or sail them. You navigate them. Youd only sail them if they had sails. Piloting them, you may say if under pilotage. But not something you really hear. As for landing or docking. Well the term normally used is 'Berthed'. Although docking is sometimes used. 'The Thames Highway, is currently being Navigated across the North Sea, and will Berth in Sheerness tomorrow morning'

 The term 'vessel' covers everything.

So what about Blood " Vessels " then

@ Skodanorman. You dont 'sail' a ship, unless it has sails and is being powered by wind. You navigate it. You dont really use the term 'driving' either. Not as incorrect as the term 'sail', but still not a term that is used.

Haha Goldfinger. Lets just stick with ships/ boats etc etc.

So, is a Hovercraft a ship or an aircraft? Are the Officers seen as Pilots?

A hovercraft is classed as a Hybird  flown by a pilot

A hybird? But yes, flown by a pilot.

A hybird? But yes, flown by a pilot.

It is neither a ship/boat or aircraft. It's classed as an ACV  'Air Cushioned Vehicle '

or 'non displacement craft'.

update on my bw51, it is now confirmed as left the port on a ship yesterday although they would not say what ship that is... for some reason the chap on the phone said it takes 4-5 days to get the car to the UK from port. right!

Unfortunately because I am "only" the customer who's buying the fracking thing I couldn't get an update today when I rang SUK. The guy who's been dealing with my case just said "I'll update you once a week"

Mine was built week 51 so I *guess* (since that's all you can do with Skoda) that it's on the same ship, when I pointed out that I'd spent money I wasn't expecting to on tax'ing and sorting insurance on the car I'm meant to be PX'ing with them they didn't seem bothered at all - dealer is also not bothered.

Sometimes it's really tough to remember that I'm choosing to spend money with these guys, if only the car wasn't such a good deal when I signed up for it.....

On a slightly happier note I've just checked and thames highway is in sheerness at the moment (docked at 9:18 ish)

So good news for anyone with a car on that boat, should be with you soon I'd imagine!

thanks for the update on the ship.. I was told it takes up to 10 days to get the cars to the dealership from arrival to port. although 7 days is the norm

Yeah dont expect it to turn up straight away at the dealers. I saw a transporter with a bunch of brand new VWs heading clockwise around the Southern part of the M25 very early this morning. About 7ish. Must have come from Sheerness. The earliest they could have arrived is on the last ship. So expect a few more days yet. It may depend how many new cars are heading to your area. They wont send just 1 car on its own.

So my one now be parked in the car park at the port...

with most of yours....

where that phone No for Eddie Stobart so I can call them to pick it up ...!!

Good luck with that! You ever been to Sheerness :devil:
