The boot lid seems to be a bit heavy and I need to watch it doesnt slam when I close the boot. When its open the struts seem to hold it ok its just when closing it they seem to feel a bit weak.

 

I had that on another car a while back and replaced the struts (SGS Engineering if I remember correctly)

 

Are the boot struts prone to failure on the hatch?

 

Where is the best place for replacements?

 

Is it just the cold weather? Mine are the same in winter but fine all other times of the year!

I have the same problem since i bought the car. I have to help it shut so it dont slam. When it does slam I keep staring at the rear screen just in case it has smashed lol. 

I have noticed it for a while not just the cold weather.

Get new struts. These things do wear out. Especially with such a heavy boot like on an octavia. Let us know how you get on might do mine if it is a good improvement. You could also go and try the boot of a newish car at a dealership to compare.
