I'm picking a Silver 1 up tomorrow from Wakefield so let the fun commence. Drive from Wakey to Glasgow to see my lass and stretch it's legs to check all's fine, give it some strong pulls and open it up if all's fine then a quick stage 1 remap saturday so the proper fun can commence with the modding

silver is the best colour mines an ex police car

Excuse my ignorance guys what is/are RARB?

Rear Anti Roll Bar!! Ha ha!!

Is there a Haynes manual for the Mk1?

So car all sorted, changed the alternator quickly (need to change tensioner as well), sorted out a relay sending the wipers mad, remapped Saturday so now pulling like a train and full interior valet yesterday. Now to sort out the niggles. Rear washer appears to be loose behind the washer bottle so whip that off and check it. Need to quickly clean out the scuttle as well. Already popped on a new pioneer double din and run the hands free mic. The new pioneer fits perfectly btw, no fascia needed or anything else.

Next is getting little things done on the interior - new driver Cup holder as mechanism is goosed, same with ashtray. Clip on driver side visor snapped, quickly pop a new one on and the cover on the passenger windows is off so I'll pop in a new switch. Rear screen seems to clear very slowly so might get a new screen on there.

Quick question- anyone know if there's a centre armrest available?

Armrests from the golfs go matey

Dunno how and if pop rite in ( probably )

Lots have done it :)

Iirc pete has it , he is a friendly fellow that will tell you ( group1rs )

Yep mk4 golf one pops straight in may need octavia plastic panels though

Thanks again everyone. Think I'll pop down the scrappy at some point and see if any of them have any Octavia's in and some golf mkIV's for the armrest. Reckon I'll change the droplinks and tracking rods this week and get some decent'ish bushes on the ARB. Haven't the wheels off yet but does anyone know what the calipers are like on these to remove? Not a fan of those green calipers and want to whip them off, tidy them back up and paint them red.

Also sent a quick message to the local dealer about coil packs. Got to say that it pulls like a bloody train but doesn't half like to spin it's wheels!!! Best crack open the piggy bank and bang a quaiffe on it. FFS, yesterday with the wet roads the traction control was kicking in in 5th on the motorway so turned it off and true to form the wheels were actually trying to spin in 5th! lol

Also just wondering what wiper blades people have? I'm 100% sure the ones fitted are wrong as the passenger side is over hanging. Haven't measure them yet but if you know the blade codes it'd be helpful

Lower PCV/breather totally split, tried a repair but nowt so silicon one en route. Into check the coil packs tomorrow and pick up the new exhaust hangers. Realigned the gearbox today as well, damn, what a quick and painless job!

I was in Halfrauds this morning and there was one- 16.99 but you'll get a better price elsewhere ;)

See if you can get a trade card for Halfords gives you quite a good discount. I got a low access trolley jack and a pair of 2 tonne axle stands for £48 the Jack should have been £39.99 and the axle stands £19.99 great deal and more than enough for the average DIY mechanic. The axle stands fit perfect on the chassis rails so no crushed sills
