Secondary air pump, engine code

Featured Replies

Hi

The computer is saying my secondary air pump is faulty, the fault code comes back as secondary air pump fault, will repairing the rivets solve this, possibly, as this seems to be the main issue people have come across, I haven,t actually looked at mine yet, or is it beyond repair and needs replacing or removing all together as its throwing up a fault code and engine light on dash as well.

Any ideas

Cheers

If there's a horrible noise when starting from cold and idles abit rough then yes rivets have gone. If there's no noise the pump might be goosed or the relay. What code did you get?

Sorry for the late reply, I can hear it working on start up, but sometimes it starts then stops, then starts, then stops. Can,t remember the code off hand, I,ll try and get it again

If it starts and stops cotinuously in the first 90 seconds of cold start, then you have a problem of some sort that should show in a vcds/code scan.

However, it should cut in and out perodically for a few seconds at a time as the car warms up when sitting at idle as a part of the emissions process - this is meant to happen by design - think it is a self test process on the system as it reaches operating temperature.

If you take out the SAI pump, you will more than likely get a CEL, even with resistors wihin a few days of doing it unless you have the sai mapped out, as it will pick up no flow when it runs the self test during warmup.

Hope it helps
