SMF vs DMF and ECS vs Darkside Developments HELP PLEASE

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I done a quick search on here and cant find the answers I am looking for.

To bring you up to speed, I have just taken the car to my local garage VAG specialist, great guy he took the car round the block and confirmed my fears the clutch is shagged! He thinks its probably the original so he said the flywheel will probably be toast too!

He has quoted the following:

Fit new OEM clutch and new (exchange) OEM DMF and all the bits to fit £360 plus

Labour total including VAT = £600

My question is do i stick with a DMF or shall i go with a SMF

options for SMF are:

the ECS kit from Awesome cost £330 inc VAT

or

the kit from Darkside developments cost £260 inc VAT

Does anyone have any experiences with these particular kits and can you vouch for them?

Am I going to notice the difference with SMF, will it harm anything. 18 cars never had to do a clutch!?

Last note i am intending on getting a stage 1 map done soon after.

BASICALLY WHAT SHOULD I DO HELP PLEASE :o

thanks Paddy

Got the 14lb ECS on mine, no complaints from me, feels as good as OEM, some people complain of rattle at idle with SMF's, not too noticeable on mine.

Genuine DMF's more than capable for Stage 1, as are the 2 SMF's you looking at.

hI,

Thanks for your reply, I was thinking long term that either would be fine. However short term the SMF is cheaper. I was thinking of the heavier of the to is it 20 lb which is almost stock.

Thanks Again for your reply.

Mine sounds like an auto at the moment if you boot it.

Paddy

just a heads up. Dark side development kit is more. There's vat on top of the price plus about £18 For shipping. Works out around same price of the Ecs kit. I found this as I was about to order.

I'm having mine changed tomorrow to a lightweight g60 flywheel and a vr6 clutch.
