Octavia 1.6 TDI, '11, no heat and temp gauge not moving

Featured Replies

I just had the EGR cooler replaced on my car. The day after the temp gauge didn't move at all and I get no heat from it.

The garage that replaced the EGR cooler also replaced the thermostat after I noticed there was no heat. That worked for a short while only but now we're back to Square one again, no heat and the temp gauge don't move.

If I run the heater I get some warm air and then the temp gauge moves up to about 60-70 degrees C.

If I then turn the heater off the temp gauge goes back to the bottom position again after a while.

The fan is working on all speeds, the engine seems to run as it should, everything else is working fine.

Any ideas?

It can't be the water pump, then the engine would over heat. There is no air in the system, the garage has equipment to get rid of all the air when they fill up the coolant.

I beleive the thermostat is opened and the liquid is always circulating and the car won't heat up.

That's why we replaced the thermostat, but it's the same problem with the new thermostat. What's the chance of that happening?

Are there two thermostats on any of Skodas (and VW's and AUDI's) models?
