is this a good deal?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

New too this forum but im hoping to have an octavia soon!!

I've been looking around and for around 4000 I have come across this Octavia Elegance. Its got slightly higher mileage than from a private seller at 94k but they have mot'd, serviced it and give a 3 month warranty.

Im keen on getting an elegance 1.9 and I also like the colour :)

My worry is am I going to encounter any problems soon with it? What costs should i expect in the next year or two with it etc, Its had a cambelt replaced recenently apparently but not clutch or any other major parts.

ok thanks will do

Hi NorflokWill

I'm just in the process of changing my 05 Octavia 2 Elegance TDI estate for a bRand new FAbia MOnte Carlo Tech. We have had the Octavia since new and it has always been franchised dealer maintained with cam belt replaced at 65k. Also recent new glow plugs, tyres, battery and A/c service. I have had a reasonable PEx offer from the dealer but since it is such a good car I would really like it to go to someone who would appreciate it. She has covered 94,000 miles but does not have any rattles, bumps or noises that should not be there and rides really smoothly. In the just under 9 years that we have had the car it has not let us down once and it is coping effortlessly with my 90 miles a day cross country commute. The car is standard Elegance spec (all switchgear and fittings etc works as it should) and is finished in Metallic Sahara (the sandy beige colour), whilst the car does have some minor blemishes consistent with its age the dealer described it as a very nice easier able example.

I would be looking for around £3000 as a private sale - would you be interested?

Even if you choose not to follow this up I can honestly say that my experience of this car has been a dream and (so long as it has been looked after) I cannot imagine that you would be disappointed with your choice

Cheers

Paul

HI Paul,

Thank you very much for your offer. I think an estate would be too big for me and i dont like the shape quite as much as the hatchback, so I must decline.

Hope you find a good home for it though and have fun with your Fabia!

Will

Hi Will

Thanks for your reply. No problem and good luck

Best wishes

Paul

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the estate is exactly the same length, width etc as the hatchback with the only difference being the extended roofline.

Yes its the same length as the hatch, so anyone thinking the estate is too big may feel the same with the hatch.

Paul, where were you a couple of months ago, I'd have snapped your hand off! I'm pleased enough at getting my 54 plate hatch for that price but an 05 estate would have been even better!

OP, just got one. High mileage would not put me off one bit, especially on the 1.9. Make sure timing belt has been done. Make sure all electrics work, air con, climate control, cruise control. Test drive at motorway speeds and check for wind noise from the rear, although easy enough to fix.

Check for no metallic noises on cold start - sign of the DMF on its way out. Clutch and turbo I'd say are probably luck of the draw how much they'll go past 100 thousand miles so leave a bit of budget just in case for at least one or the other in year 1
