fabia coolant temp sensor

Featured Replies

Hi im looking for some advice my engine management light is on after using a friends diagnostic it reads coolant temp sensor 1 my temp gauge is working fine and the car is running fine ive cleaned the 2 pin connection would i be best clearing the codes to see if the management light returns or should this go off if it was just due to a dirty connection point

Hello, the temperature sensor has a 4 pin connection, it has 2 totally independent sensors housed in the same unit, one feeds the ecu, the other is for the instrument cluster.. So in Essenes it is possible for one to be faulty and the other be working correctly, in fact I've seen it happen many many times.

So i was probably looking at the wrong sensor the one i was looking at is located to the right of the engine around 8 inches down above the large coolant pipe on the side of the engine

Thanks for your reply tom been looking at some of the posts relating to this but doesnt seem to be any relating directly to the 1.2 3 cylinder i have

I can't visualise the 1.2 engine in my mind, have you got a picture.

Will take one tomorrow to get a clear picture the sensor is grey with a 2 pin connector which is joined to the thermostat housing also there is a green sensor just to the left i will keep looking and post a good clear picture tomorrow thanks for all your help really appreciate it

That is the correct sensor, it feeds the ECU direct, which then talks to the temperature gauge, so only a two-pin device, as you've found. I would expect the fault light to go off when the fault is removed, but if you can clear it, do so, and see whether it returns. Did the connections seem dirty? Not an expensive sensor to replace, if it does persist in showing a fault. Worth checking the wiring carefully near the loom connector, they are very flimsy looking wires.

I think the green sensor you've seen is actually the oil pressure switch (single wire?), so not related.
