Skoda Symphony Removal - The "no Tool" Method....

Featured Replies

Ok, this works for the Octy vRS cos i just tried it, i cant be sure about other models...

1. Get hold of 2 PVC cable ties (I used 12 inch long, but any length will do, its the width that matters)

2. Cut the tie wraps to about 3-4 inches long, and slide them into the slots on either side of the Head unit, this will need a little force, but you shouldnt do any damage as the tie wraps are PVC :)

3. Remove the trim panel that surrounds the HU, Climatronic Controls, ash-tray etc, it unclips easily, but be careful anyway.

4.If you've pushed the tie wraps in far enough, some gentle "jiggling" should be enough the get the Head Unit out.

5. Disconnect the Symphony, and put something decent in its place :D

DISCLAIMER.

This worked for me, any damage you do while attempting to repeat this death-defying feat is your responsibilty :P

or you could just pop along to your local dealer, ask them to release it - I'm sure they'll ablige :D

Wooooooooohoooooooo !!!

I just tried the Kenwood in the car...

WHAT A DIFFERENCE.

Its so much clearer then the Symphony, the sound quality is unbelievable.

So, all i need to do now is get the correct adapter from Halfords tomorrow (the one i have doesnt have the 12v feed for the aerial grrrrr) and fit it....

Then break out the plastic and get a new CD Changer.....

Or a Music Keg...

or

or

or....

Aggggghhhhhh me head !! :D

Geoff

I could kick myself -- I sold a Kenwood system just before getting the octy - as I foolishly thought I wouldnt need it DOH!

I am looking at the Keg option myself -- quite like the idea, only problem is I have to get new head unit as well !

I offered my Kenwood to the Bro-In-Law, for FREE

Luckily he turned it down, cos the CD player is worth more than his car :D

My tried and tested method of removing the Symphony HU is to use one of these metal measure thingies that looks like a wrench, but if you open it up it has a long thin metal pin sticking out at the bottom. Gawd, why don't they teach you these kind of words at school  ?

My local Skoda dealer wanted a minimum of 30 mins labours to remove the CD player.

not very helpful IMO

You can also use the plastic form a dvd case cut into slithers to disengage the HU clips - works a treat and most people have one readily available

Nice seven year old thread bump above! :D
