BMW M5 - Opinions?

Featured Replies

Nope. The new M3 / M4 is rear wheel drive.

The 7 speed DCT has an official 'smokey burnout function' :D

M4?

Yes - all BMWs are rear wheel drive (apart from Mini).

But u can add xDrive hence u get the X3 / X5 and now 1series with xDrive as is 3series.

Or have I got all that messed up in my head?

No thats right x-drive is become more spread out as an option over the range

Power wise its split 40:60 but can shift to 100% on either axle depending whats required

And you can have it on th

1,3,4,5,6,7 series

2 series will join but its not out yet

But not on the M3,M4 & M5?

Chan- M4 is the new name for M3 coupe :)

No but why would you want 4wd on an M model?

If that were the case you'd buy an audi and be bored.

If you have the money for an M5 you don't drive it all year round you have another car :)

Saying that my crappy 320d has coped fine so far every day this winter :)

Think I misunderstood what you were saying earlier to Chan.

Don't get me wrong I love the BMW M series, but Audi 4wd have their place too & I love them aswell. I just love nice cars :)

With regards buying the M5 and another car - I only need one car, hence why I buy bigger saloons with decent power. I can pretty much cover all bases as a sports car / family car / load lugger.

For me it makes better financial sense & I can buy a better car than 2 lesser cars with all the associated running costs.

My S4 has over 400bhp, it's hardly boring ;)

So BMW must be letting the leasing companies have them on the cheap

Ok, so rang Eastern BMW today......and the deal is over :(

Apparantly BMW were making big contributions in the last quarter campaign of 2013 towards this lease deal.

The guy at Eastern said it was 'very successful' and got a lot of people into M5's.

I know when I worked out the deal over the 2 years the total cost was about £16.5k, which is less than the depreciation if bought privately.

As predicted he said there won't be any deals on the new M3 / M4, no need.

So I'm going to sit tight & see if the next campaign from 1 April brings any good deals.

Speak to some people on the RS246 board. A few gone from RS 6 to M5. Some of them mentioned they had some bum clenching moments even in a straight line overtake.

Think I'm gonna change the RS 5 this year. Unsure what to yet.

I've booked in for a drive in the M4 in May. Trouble is it sounds rubbish and interior doesn't look amazing. We shall see.

Skoda?

I think a Yeti would give you the kerb appeal you seek.

Thinking of getting another RS 5.

If I am honest I didn't expect you to change one RS5 for another.

I thought yours was a good deal and was under warranty.

Mind you I remember you've posted a couple of times on Briskoda asking about Jag and R8.

Looking at R8 and Jags but its just a bit too much money. Moving house is on the cards which isn't cheap.

My warranty expires in August. Therefore I've gone for 6 months tax starting in Feb and within the six months I will have yet another motor. Hopefully a facelift RS this time.

Only had one bum clenching moment in the S4 ;)

Came off a roundabout onto a NSL dual carraigeway. It was a damp day & the road a bit greasy. Floored it in 2nd & into 3rd through the paddles and saw the back end come round.

As quick as it happened I felt the car shift the power up front and pull the car out with a little help from me steering. quattro magic ;)

I doubt an M5 would be as forgiving, but thats the whole point, you do get a little complacent with the 4wd. You know its going to help you out.

As much as the M5 is on my list of cars, It stood out because of the deal, and I'm going to wait for another, be it a M5 or something else. I'm in no rush.

Have you got the sports diff? It has saved me a couple of times as have the ceramics. Trouble is these cars are probably too quick for the roads.

Track!

The GT-R was exactly the same. :)

Why not just do what one of the taxi drivers round here did; buy a 520D and then proper BMW M5 panels and bumpers to give you the 'look'  :giggle:  Of course the black smoke bellowing out the rear and the light seen through the right hand twin exhausts don't give the game away......  Or even better a 535D and remap it yo!
