Wipers don't 'flip up'?

Featured Replies

I recently drove to the alps and while parked in the mountains, it's common practice to 'flip up' the wipers so they don't get frozen to the screen. Imagine my surprise when I discovered I couldn't do this on my TDI vRS as the bonnet gets in the way.

Is this normal? A symptom of the RHD conversion perhaps? Strange!@

you have to get them into the park position first so they are pointing skyward then they will flip away from the screen.  Cant remember the exact method on the mk3 but its something like engine off, key in position 1 then press down on the wiper stalk as if you a re doing a single wipe.  someone will correct me if wrong but this is what I do when washing the car.

If its the same as the Yeti, if you turn ignition on then off then flip wiper stalk down, wipers then park in an upright position and can be flipped away from screen.

ill go check.  Think it changed from the mkii as that used to be ignition off then push on wiper stalk

sorry, kenny r was correct. engine running then turn off but leave key in and press down on stalk.

Don't forget to make sure they're back on the windscreen before you start the car and touch the wiper stalk or you'll be having the bonnet resprayed.....

From the manual.

Winter setting of the windscreen wiper

If the windscreen wipers are in rest position, they cannot be folded out from the windscreen. For this reason we recommend adjusting the windscreen wipers in winter so that they can be folded out from the windscreen easily.

› Switch on the windscreen wipers.

› Switch off the ignition.

The windscreen wipers remain in the position in which they were when switching off the ignition.

The service position can also be used as a winter position » page 241.

This is why I wouldn't bother, it would be easy to absent mindedly get in the car on a dark morning and fire up the ignition. Ouch.

Just put a piece of fabric between windows and wipers instead.

The wipers don't activate when the bonnet is up!?

They're talking about the wipers being up (bonnet closed) and being activated.

Excellent - was wondering how you lifted them away during washing :)
