Newbie with a sister marque

Featured Replies

Hi all, hope you don't mind me joining as I don't actually own a Skoda, but a MK7 Golf GTD, which I picked up towards the end of September last year.

I thought as both the new Octavia III, Golf 7, New Leon and new Audi A3 all share the same MQB platform, and most likely a lot of common parts etc. I could glean some valuable information from your guru's, especially VCDS tweaks which could well apply to the Golf as well.

Actually, did very nearly purchase the Octavia III over the Golf, but at the time (April last year when I ordered), the new Occy wasn't available and when it was, It didn't at the time have the engine / transmission combination I wanted (184ps TDI and DSG). I do have to say though that the Skoda dealers were much politer and professional than a lot of the VW dealers I tried (and don't even get me started on Audi dealers).

As for options, well I went a bit overboard. DCC (Dynamic chassis control), Keyless Entry (KESSY), Auto Park Pilot, Auto Main beam control, Dynaudio (VW's sound system), Discover Nav Pro (the large 8" screen with the HDD, not sure what Skoda call their equivalent), Rear View Camera, Winter Pack and of course DSG. Annoyingly, I wanted Lane Assist (for the traffic sign recognition), but for some strange reason, you still can't spec it on a GTD or GTI in the UK (but you can elsewhere).

Standard kit on the GTD is pretty good with 18" Alloys, Parking sensors front and rear, Adaptive radar controlled cruise control, 7 air bags, city collision detection, front assist, Xenon Headlights with cornering lights and dynamic curve lighting, LED rear light Clusters, Colour MFD (think you refer to it as Maixidot), MFSW, Dual Zone Climate control, SD card slots, MDI (Multi function device interface - with Ipod and USB leads), Central armrest, sports seats, LED front fog lights, Ambient lighting in the doors and illuminated door sill trims, Electric folding door mirrors with passenger side dip, LED's for interior lighting and license plate, GTD/GTI body kit (sports bumper, side skirts, rear diffuser, larger upper tailgate spoiler), and driving mode selection - to name the major ones. But all this does come at a price, and the GTD isn't exactly cheap, but I do love it.

Anyway, all 4 of the MQB cars seem to be superb (sorry - no Skoda pun intended), and I don't think there's really that much to choose between them - just looks and price really.

For info, here's a couple of my chariot.

Actually Scribbler, I know you are joking (I hope  ), but the one thing I don't have is badge snobbery. Absolutley love the new Occy III, and if I needed a bigger car and the choice was between that, a passat or an A4, the Occy would win hands down and would be on my driveway now. For a large Saloon like car (i know it's a hatch), I think it's one of the best out there. TBH i never really liked the way on older models the grills at the front were huge, but on the MQB Occy, they seem to now have it perfect - graceful and mean at the same time.

It was just a little too big (and the wife wouldn't drive it), and not available in the spec I wanted at the time I placed my order for the Golf. If I was ordering again today now that the Occy III ordering process and available engines / transmission and options has matured,  it would have been a very close run thing.

Very nice car! Welcome.

Welcome  :hi:

Yes sorry joking your cars a peach, love white cars and yours looks spot on. Only thing that bugs me and its very minor is the holes left by the toeing eye and parking sensors in the front bumper which brake up an otherwise very smooth contoured surface. Very nice motor though you should be very pleased with your purchase even though the price tag with all them options would bring tears to my eyes.
