In Search Of Drivers

Right...

I've been asked by my main work to try and upgrade a tablet using my home business (they knew it would be problematic so are paying me outside of my salary to do it at home)!

I can not for love nor money find any drivers for this tablet and without them I can't install Windows (need a SATA driver).

I've contacted the manufacturer who aren't interested in helping me as I didn't purchase it, the company who own it didn't purchase it, and it was purchased by a third party to use for an application that didn't happen (was given to my employer as a test device and then decided against).

It's a DT Research DT390 and was running Win XP Embedded (which I now know contained all the bloody drivers)!

Does anyone know if such a thing as a generic sata driver exists so I can at least get the OS install done??

Please help!

Thanks,

Simon

XP at one time needed to load SATA drivers from floppy before you could start to install the OS. It was right at the start of the build. I think the drivers were pretty generic but you're going back a ways there and I've not done it for nearly 10yr.

Embedded is likey to be an odd beast anyway.

Thanks Aspman.

Embedded is now gone, thanks to me handily wiping the SSD before trying to install Win 8.

I'm gonna have a go following your first link and see how I get on - hardest I've ever had to work just to install a blooming OS!

Yeah, one of the first places I tried. Like most of the internet it hasn't heard of this bizzaro tablet...

I would forget the name and start looking at the actual HARDWARE; once you know who made the various bits you stand a chance of finding software for it.

Possibly look at www.driverguide.com . You will need to register, but I've had some good downloads fron there

^+1 if you can see the guts or the chips it might well help.

Well you're never going to believe it...

Found some fairly generic Intel Atom sata drivers, plucked one at random and the install has just begun for Win 8! Amazed isn't the word! Ta for all the help!

EDIT:

Nope, it gave up.

Next job stripping the device down then!

As said- driverguide.com .If you  can't find an upload for the kit by name, you might get a link to the hardware makers site ,for a possible download from there .

Having now tried every SATA driver under the sun, I'm beginning to suspect that it might not be that...

Further delving into the BIOS has revealed that it is expecting Windows CE to be there so that's probably not going to help...

Getting tempted to throw in the towel on this one - I've already warned the depot manager how much he owes me so far....

Yep, now giving up. Looks like the mSATA drive is beyond saving, can't even install Ubuntu on to it. To the bin it goes!
