GPS Tracker

Featured Replies

Anyone have experience on the matter? or could recommend a unit?

I have Tracker locate. They will find it even in a container.

I wouldnt want one. I wouldnt want the car if its been stolen, thrashed and rallied around and abused. So id hope they didnt find it to be honest.

It would save me sellin it if they got it back

My car is stolen to order not joy rided . Most thieves Nick a car then park it up for a day to see if it has a tracker. Brother in laws TT was returned this way with no chase and police lie in wait to catch them.I only pay 275 fully comp ins with 3 points as garanteed to get it back if reported stolen within a day

I still wouldnt want it back. Im quite particular about these things, it just wouldnt be the same for me afterwards haha.

Unless they get the keys, they have to really know what theyre doin to steal a modern car anyway dont they

If you've got a 'sort after' vehicle make sure you dont leave the keys on the hall table next to your front door letter box (where they can be 'fished' out using a hook on a stick), or on the kitchen worktop in full view of the window overnight - as the thief will burgle your house for the keys. It's worth just hiding your keys up overnight in a place where a 'creeper' burglar won't find them even if they get into your house.

I wouldn't share what's fitted to my cars on a public forum. :)

Anything can be isolated and deactivated if you know what it is in advance.

I'm qualified to fit Tracker units.

So they wake me up and attack/threaten me for them? Think I'd rather wake up to no car than that thanks!

Exactly.

There is no right or wrong way to do this or places to hide keys.

You either hope they are after an easy steal and take a chance on them just taking the car or you hide the keys and hope they are not an organised gang with a quota to fill.

Because if the latter they will come upstairs...

I'd rather the car was gone than put my kids in danger.

That is so rare, most car thieves are creepers and would never go down that route.

Theres risks on everything. If they want it that much, and they know what theyre doin, they'll get it.

There was a burglary around here recently. In brief, They got his kids locked up, took him to his place of work, filled his 2 cars up with stuff and off they went.

If they plan enough some of the smart ones can get whatever they want. You dont want to get in their way

Some of us do run other cars. :)

One of them was an old rav 4. Cars were found abandoned later though. Its not those they wanted. He had cameras up too.

Point bein though, if they want it. It doesnt matter what precautions you take

sounds like they used the cars for transporting the stolen goods away - in which case the burglars were on a totally different mission and were up for threatening the householders from the off.

Yup. But people are capable of that, so why wouldnt they do similar to get your car? If they plan itout theyre unlikely to get caught and could quite frankley get whatever they like

two or three proper answers and a lot of armchair CSI :D

Cant beat abit of only just vaguely related chat :). Plenty of room for on topic replies too isnt there haha

Aaaaanyways so from what I understand the expensive units usually come with a subscription fee and the cheaper ones work with SMS texting which provides the user with a link to check on Google maps the whereabouts of the vehicle. Also the futures range quite a bit which makes it even more confusing what to purchase and which one works well or not.  :wall:

I work in the tracker industry. If the thieves even suspect there might be one fitted, they will just plug a GPS/GPRS jammer into the cigarette lighter and the car will never be seen again.

Wouldn't have thought thieves would break into a house just to get the keys to a Skoda

Happened to a colleague recently. The general consensus is that the thieves were after their neighbour's Audi, but made do with the Skoda instead.  :giggle:

Suppose it share's some parts, must've been low paid thieves, a Skoda is regarded as a poor man's Audi.

or a audi is a skoda or someone with more money than sense ? :) :) :)

I don't suppose it matters how much money, or sense you have if you're nicking it.  :giggle:
