Hi all - Skoda Fabia 1.2 Comfort HTP (53)

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I just wanted to say thank you! for all of the posts/help I have read along the way even though I haven't commented.

Encouraged my wife to buy a Fabia for her first car about 2 years ago (bigger boot than polo and a bit cheaper). Unfortunately must have bought a duff one even though the mileage was really low (47k). My wife, as a new driver, barely used the car in her first year due to her failing her test, has now done a measly 3k miles so it is now at 50k.

So far I have done the following, which from my internet searching seem to be quite common:

  • Sealed rear inner door panels due to excessive condensation
  • Replace both front wishbones, lots of clunking from front end from worn bushes - pre-empting MoT failure
  • Replaced rear hub - failed MoT (by the time I had muddled my way through changing front bushes and wishbones (stupidly placed sump) lost the will to contest so paid garaged :( )
  • Repaired the electric window due to the mechanism 'exploding' and shredding the cable - luckily replaced using cable kit from ebay (£17 yipee!) - garage wanted to change inner door panel , motor and runners - cheeky!
  • Oh and the horn stopped working due to poor connections in steering wheel. - just needed lots of use to 'clear' the contacts

All of the instructions I found on the internet so suspect much must have come from here - so once again Thank you!!

I did have quick question if i may be so bold: It has just had the service indicator come up for 50k miles. I assume my 1.2 has a timing chain so I shouldn't need to worry about a belt going. But what is usually included in the 50k service? It looks like it has had full Skoda service history except the last one the garage we bought it from did (I suspect it wasn't great - especially as they had ticked the cam belt change even though it has a chain!)

Thanks again,

Daniel
