SE Seats v Elegance Seats

Featured Replies

I am quite fussy about car seating and if it's wrong I tend to get lower back pain very quickly. I hate the SE non-lumbar support seats for this reason.

I had Recaro sportster CS seats in the Octavia I recently sold and they are just amazing. I drove over 500 miles from Sheffield to Oldshoremore in one go and 830 miles from Sheffield to Morzine in one go (Lidl energy drinks and exotic French Haribo) and got out feeling fresh. They don't even have adjustable lumbar support - they're just brilliantly designed.

It's such a shame that Recaro stopped making domestic seating last year. I'd have loved one of their reclining arm chairs and a sofa.

Yeah, they look ace, but I've already got two Aerons, which are the next best thing.

Indeed so - unless it was dealt with in the very regular servicing it's had from main dealers.  So, no, then.  I wonder how many are ever lubricated?

Mine are! (with the proper stuff, as well as the door hinges, locks and sunroof mechanism - as well as rubber door seals - once every 6-12 months - sad but true!)

Ive go got the standard Elegance leather seats - exceptionally comfortable design imo (but covered in very cheap leather/plastic, materials wise). Ive done quite a few 13-14 hours days behind the wheel only stopping for fuel every 400 miles and have done stints of 6,500 miles in just over 5 weeks on touring holidays - comfort has never been an issue and I get out feeling amazingly ache free each time. :)

I can't believe at £80 people didn't spec the adjustable lumbar support.

I can't believe that this isn't standard on the SE spec seats - does the Yeti get half plastic (leather) with alcantara centres. These are what I have and I find them very comfortable with the lumbar pushed right out.

You have since the Yeti came out been able to order Alcantara (centred) seats on the Yeti SE and below.  And only recently they changed it so you can finally order this option on the Elegance as well (even though it was the exact same price as full leather (which is standard on the Elegance) you could not swap full leather for Alcantara in an Elegance for the last FOUR YEARS - typical SUK logic there).

The Superb is specced better as standard if you compare model to model.

Such as SE to SE and Elegance to Elegance.

On the electric vs manual thing (sorry if I'm a bit too late), I went from manual Elegance seats in my 10-plate Yeti to electric Elegance seats in my 13-plate Yeti. The electrics are indeed more adjustable (and better for it) but also much, much firmer. Not uncomfortable, but definitely less bum-friendly.

Sounds like the se might give me trouble like the elegance did. Shame, I really fancy a yeti again too. So far a transit van has been the most comfortable to drive, not really suitable as a family wagon though!

I have a Vivaro van with the most basic seats in the world and drove 5 hours non stop up to Ardrossan to catch a ferry and found I had just had the most comfortable journey with no back ache what so ever. My wife has a top of the range new shape Astra (which is about to be replaced by a Yeti). This has the fancy leather seats that have absolutley every adjustment going including extendind seat base for long legs and adjustable side bolsterse etc. I find them completely useless. After driving for more than 30 mins I get back ache. It just shows whats right for some is not right for others. I also think the up right high seats of the van help as my legs aren't out in front of me like in the car.

I find that Vauxhalls in general have the most pronounced lumbar on any car I've sat in. It's like a Yeti seat with the lumber pushed out TWICE as far and that is on a non lumbar adjustable seat so you can nothing about it.  So yes Vauxhalls give me back ache in about 15 minutes or so.  Can't stand their seats.

Ditto - Vauxhall seats are appalling. Also, NO lateral supports on the standard models. Just rubbish.

I have test driven the Adventure (basically an SE) and an two SE Plus. The Adventure - i.e. SE (without Lumbar support ) was really uncomfortable

with  a central vertical stripe (where the tyre track pattern is) on the seat upright which has no padding. Very odd - you really feel this constantly as an uncomfortable dent in the seat.

The SE Plus was completely fine - i.e. I didn't notice the seat at all and could concentrate on driving which is as it should be. My wife who is a foot shorter than me was

also comfortable in the SE Plus but not in the SE (Adventure).

It is possible that this is just an issue in the Adventure special addition and that the standard SE is ok.
