Hi all

I'm on my second Yeti and currently have a Citigo that replaced our second Roomster.

Our Yeti is an SE+ 4 x 4 140 Tdi with DSG. We need a bigger car and I fancy a Superb with DSG and 4 x 4.

Is anyone able to share any experiences to help in the "should I or should I not" debate?

Many thanks

John

This was my dilemma - Yeti or Superb  (4x4 but, a manual as I'm not sure about the longevity of DSG)

I have two dogs and live in an area often affected by snow/ice

I went with the Superb - more room and a bigger (length)  boot  and that 'luxury' feel - I would imaging the Yeti will have more ground clearance should you need to go off-road.

The Superb could be called boring  or is that grown up ?

I have owned over the years along with many other cars a Jaguar XJ6 and a Mercedes 230. I would not swap my Superb!

Many thanks for that Chris.  I never have gone off-roading but we do go out to Austria each winter (and indeed in the summer).  Last January's journey was horrendous with snow the whole way to Rotterdam.  Having 4 x 4 available gave peace of mind although I suspect that the winter tyres did more than the all wheel drive.

My 25 year old son still joins us for the ski holiday so our Yeti is rather full, albeit with a roof box.

So at 62 I think I could cope with being called boring if that's what people think but space and luxury do it for me.

Hi Helipilot, many thanks, that's a good sign.

I can't help you with a comment on 4x4 but I'm very happy to support the DSG box on my Superb. It is an absolute delight to use. I'm told by my local independent VAG garage that I use to service my car that as long as you change the oil every 40000 miles, and of course you use the right quality of oil, then the DSG box is good for many miles of happy motoring - luxury motoring!

Thanks for comments.  I am collecting a 5-month old Superb Estate in Elegance trim with DSG and 4 x 4 on Saturday.

Can't wait!

Another positive for a Superb (Combi) with DSG. Now on 28k so still loosening up, but DSG smooth & seamless.

Previously bought an Octavia 2.0tdi with DSG, at 103k. Ran it to 190k before swapping for the Superb. DSG was silky smooth and never a problem.

Prior to that first DSG experience was Passat Estate 2.0tdi. DSG was notchy and jerky in traffic. I bought Octavia on the assumption the DSG could not be worse than in the Passat!!

Would not go back to manual, or toque converter auto. Will gladly stick with DSG.

I'd never even driven an auto before we took delivery of our Superb Combi 140 4X4 TDi DSG - absolutley love the car!!!!!

I was looking for a DSG Combi with sunroof and ended up with a 140 DSG L&K 4x4 demonstrator as it was the right price, right place and right spec. I love it. Not really tested the 4x4 bit but everything else pretty good.

We sold a Disco a year or two back, in UK winter conditions (in this area) and it was no more mobile than our auto Saab diesel on good tyres. As suggested above tyres probably more effective than 4x4.

My one disappointment is shown on Fuelly , I had hoped for better but it's only done 12k, the other is that I've just put a set of four tyres on it.

It's here!  Metallic Black Elegance 170 DSG 4 x 4 Combi.  Dare I say "it's Superb!".

I love it...it's everything I hoped it would be.
