Goodbye RS 5

Featured Replies

So after 6 months I have sold the RS 5.

What an incredible car it was/is. Bloody expensive to run as a daily driver. Approx £1200 per month it cost me in total. Ouch! In total I lost just over a grand from buying to selling. Martyn at Bath Audi has been a great help.

Looking at getting a Polo GTI as my new daily and as something I can teach my mrs in.

I have confirmed my interest in the upcoming RS 3 and will likely be ordering one as soon as I can. Should give my mrs enough time to pass her test.

MMM RS3 eh.....

I'd not say no, Me and the Mrs were only discussing what next

for me when I sold the S3 on.

I've still never had a BMW and have always secretly wanted one but could only settle on a M3 if I'm honest

Maybe another Audi, not sure which though.

I may get something sensible and focus some cash on getting my

speed kick on two wheels instead. I could do with a newer and bigger

van too being totally honest, so would have to consider that too.

I thought you wanted a 911 Lord Vader?

I'd rather get another couple of properties up and running

first, so it may end up being the car after next.

Having to buy a van and a car at more or less the same time will

possibly limit me next time I'm due a change....

And of course there's the whole motorbike thing too :p

But I'll get there in the end one way or the other,

it all depends on how the next couple of years go.

With what I've learnt over the last few years I am now a big convert to having something you can track.

It doesn't matter how flash a car you buy, you just can't appreciate it fully and get the most out of it unless you track it.

High performance cars these days are just too quick for the road to be able to appreciate the performance for more than a few seconds at a time.

So I'd go for a sensible money runaround and a nice track toy any day over an expensive road car that just turns heads.

(unless that's what people want of course)

Nick, keep the Polo and get something track/wacky. :)

If I could afford £1200 a month on a car what would I do....

Probably have something comfy and old for the day (Jag) and a Caterham 7 in the garage. And I'd still be longing after something with 2 wheels not 4.

Well whatever you get next enjoy it.

Sounds like you had a ball with it though :)

One thing though, bearing in mind you have had bugger all depreciation on the car, how the hell did you spend £1200 a month!!!

Crikey Nicky you are going cars at some rate! Hard to upgrade from that for a realistic daily id imagine

I saw a RSQ3 on trade plates earlier..it looked epic!! If the RS3 is anything like that I'm sure it will be awesome.

Have to say, the lack of depreciation is very good.

Bought from an Audi garage, driven for six months and then chopped back in.

Nick clearly got a great price on the car when he bought it.

Plus Martyn at Bath really looks after me.

£1200 PCM includes insane fuel bill, big insurance, tyres, etc etc.

I'm going to look at an Ibiza Cupra for the Mrs tomorrow.

It will save me so much money running that whilst she learns. As mentioned the RS 3 is likely to get ordered next year though.

Also, the RSQ3 looks awful, Martyn got sent three by Audi. 46k, I think not.

And I didn't even trade it in for another Audi. Plus I got a stonking deal on my S5 which took savage depreciation. It's all worked out well.

I still think you'd get more fun out of a track day toy that you could justify giving the beans and not the end of the world if you have a moment in it.

An RS3 is just going to be another fancy road car. ;)

Is that the previous RS3 or is there a new one coming?

The previous one seems to hold it's value amazingly well, so not much of a bargain IMO.

New one will be out soonish to compete with the A45 AMG. Current RS 3s are part of the old model range.

Track toy may be an idea. Maybe a Clio cup or similar. Maybe a Citigo!!!

I've got an A3 saloon  coming, which is what the RS3 is based on I think, so if you want a nosey around when it turns up, give me a shout.

Are you based around the Bath area or just a fan of the not really in Bath, Bath Audi.

I know the RSQ3 is no looker but shore does go well, done just over 100 miles in one now and it really does grow on you.

Nick enjoy your "basic" motoring!

I have a good relationship with Bath Audi.

I borrowed an A3 saloon off them not long ago and will be taking their S3 out next week. Looking forward to the RS already!
