CR 170 dsg Yeti.

Featured Replies

Does this combination exist anywhere. If not I wander why as it's fitted in my Blackline. This is the reason I did not look at a Yeti.

Yes it does.

Where do they exist, can't find one on Skodas site or autotrader?

New facelifted L&K model I believe is the only Yeti you can order with the 170 with DSG.

As above. Only the new FL L&K Yeti has that combo. It's what I was looking for...

Not so sure about that now. Looking at the UK configurator shows only the Outdoor Elegance model to have the 170 DSG! All very confusing...

According to the "new brochure" that can be downloaded from the Skoda UK website, it can also be had in the Yeti Outdoor Elegance ( 170 DSG).

Sorry Pip you posted same time as me

When I ordered my FL L&K in October I was told at that time that I could only have the 170 with DSG in the Elegance trim, hence me having to order the L&K 140 DSG.

I looked at the configuration last week and I'm sure DSG was only available with the L&K 170...

Now I'm doubting myself.

But thinking about it, it was just the Elegance as the L&K only had 2 engine options IIRC.

Correct. The 170 DSG is only available in Elegance spec in the UK. I have ordered one!

Outdoor Elegance only it is.

Just what I want but extremely difficult to justify seeing as mine is

less than a year old. Doesn't particularly worry me as an impulse buyer, but my wife would fail

to understand any sort of convoluted reasons why I should change my perfectly good Yeti for

another which she almost surely wouldn't like the look of! Need to work on this very hard!

I believe you could order a bug-eye Yeti as a CR 170 diesel DSG, but it was for a very short time (a few months) before they stopped taking orders of that one and the FL came out.

So finding a used one is going to be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

I actually priced one up and considered chopping in our two Yetis for one like that.  But decided against it.

I know I could chip mine but that doesn't appeal. Is the 170 worth fighting for or is the 140 a better overall engine or

just an older underpowered lump compared to the more desirable 170? Please convince me the 140 is the one to have.

170 is the 140 with a few factory modifications.

Yes, you can remap a 140 to 175.

But then you can also remap a 170 to 210.

I suspect people that have a 170 will say it's better (like me ;) ) not only for the higher horsepower but also the bigger brakes.

Although the 312mm brakes can be added to any Yeti.

Nothing wrong with a 140 as a daily car, still feels strong.  But 170 obviously is a bit better...

Tell her its got better brakes and is better on the diesel and she can choose the colour....

She will chose black and I've had a fill of black motors over the years. It's not a colour that I

think suits the Yeti but there will be many who disagree.

I got her to agree I could order a new Mac Pro a while ago when I absolutely don't need one so

there is always hope. Apologies to those who haven't got a clue what the nMP is!

The one (and only) 170 Yeti I test drive didn't really feel much more powerful than my PD140 Octavia on the same roads.

It was the only disappointing thing about it for me.

It did stop noticeably quicker though...

That's because the PD style engines feel quicker than they are due to the torque delivery.

The CR engines feel smoother and slower than they are.

A 170 CR hits 60mph in a fraction over 8 seconds.  It feels slower.

Remap though to give it a slug of torque like the PD engines and waheey, it's great fun and does feel genuinely quick.

Having had both a 140 and 170 Yeti, I can confirm that the 170 is noticeably quicker, smoother whilst just as economical. I'd take a 170 every time given a choice. Makes playing with TTs much more fun!

The next question that springs to mind is about the DSG. Is the one in the 170 the same wet 6 speed

as in the 140 or the newer faster dry 7 speed?

Ahh, how I miss the massive torque spike of a remapped PD :)

Friend of ours recently swapped a PD130 Golf, for a newer CR140 Golf. She said she thought it felt slower. I was about to try and start explaining torque curves and why the older PD engines felt quicker, but decided against it ;)

Yes, it's the same wet clutch DSG.

The dry clutch 7 speed can't handle the torque (which is similar in both diesels)

This is why the MPG figures are reduced in the 6 speed DSG, the 7 speed is a far more efficient box with less transmission losses and gets similar to the manual.

I am on my 3rd 170 now thats 2xcr's and 1'pd and its a great engine and on the CR's the map as been great on them never seen the DPF light on the CR's either.

Again factory order was always going to be the 170, now the Tax is a little cheaper so that's a bonus.

The VW Tiguan has the 7-speed DSG available in both the 140 and 177PS versions. No 6-speed to be seen. How does that tie in

with too much torque in the Yeti?

I guess if you look at the JD power surveys that's why Skoda / Yetis are in the top 10 for reliability ;)
