Just call me Rapid Pasty

It doesn't need a lot more unless you want to go a bit mad.

For me I'd like to see what a Rapid would be like putting out 170-180bhp, now that would get my attention.

Do you reckon you could squeeze that out of a 1.2tsi Richard? ..................feeling that itch to give Preston Motors a call? :giggle:

Baring in mind they do a 1.4tsi DSG, it's feasible to do 180bhp although it would add a little weight.

With a wrecked Fabia twincharged VRS as donor.

But my Rapid phase has passed. ;)

Lee still doesn't forgive me for ordering a yellow one... which he had to take in PX and sell later on. :giggle:

I didn't think the new 1.4tsi DSG 150bhp ACT was offered on a Rapid, at least in the UK?  Plus I was wondering whether you could ever squeeze 180bhp from the 1.2tsi.

Plus I can't see anyone endorsing taking a wrecked Fabia vRS as a donor  crazy little twinchargers have enough "character" on good cars.

Rapid phase may have passed but maybe room for a BriskRapid revival?

The 1.4tsi in the Rapid is the basic 122 version, but in other VAG cars it makes 140-150.

So I guess in theory it could be tweaked to the level you suggest...

Still not addressed the weight issue.

I think you should consult with Jabba on your 180bhp 1.2tsi idea, i really think it has legs

You really do need a third option on track

Third? I think you need math lessons ...

1. CitiGoGo-Oooohhh

2. Diesel Yeti

3. Brisk Yeti

4. Fabia??

5. E.V. (to really shame all the bad less practiced drivers)

6. Company bus/van (for the heck of it? :p ... Even more O.T.: wonder how big an engine you could fit in the back of a Transporter/Transit/Iveco/...)

Got it got it got it.

Seat toledo

Although I guess that's cheating as isn't that just a different badge on the same car ;)

oh yeah, Same car!

They're even made at the same factory, right next to the Fabia and Octavia.

Here, if you have way too much time on your hands you can go through the factories:

I tested the Seat Toledo 105HP version before buying the Octavia and almost bought that one!

Have done over 150 miles of motorway in the Rapid today and cant see why you'd ever need more from a car.

Truddled along nicely at 70-75mph, was quiet, refined, comfy, and given the hire car has cruise, a very nice place to be.

even returned excellent mpg with the trip computer saying over 54mpg for the trip.

Given it was used to ferry me and a colleague to a work trade show on that basis the car may have actually made me money today.

150 miles @ 54mpg = 2.7 gallons of fuel = 12.5 litres @ £1.29 = £16.13p total fuel cost

given it's not my car so I've got no maintenance costs to account for - as the car isn't mine - if work pay the 40p per mile I'm led to believe they pay for use of personal vehicle for work purposes 150 miles x 40p = £60 :D

2 hours on the motorway did help me stop another competitor

Hyundai i40 saloon?

could well be the next size class up though..

Hyundai_i40_380_2491.jpg

Next size up again. It's definitely tricky, if not impossible, to come up with a competitor.

I do find that a bit worrying though, seeing as you then have to find sales from people who like the look of it, or fancying buying one. Rather than whittling down a shortlist....

Had a look at the Spaceback info (is every single dealer having an open weekend coming up?! I've had 4 different invites!) and was surprised at the lack of engine choice. But again, that choice probably fits the market segment that Skoda is aiming for..... if they could tell us what that segment is :)

Great review/comments PastyBoy. I have just traded my Fabia for a Toledo and could't be happier. Sorry it's not a Rapid but the deal on this ex demo car suited my budget! I agree with the comments about the handling - the steering feels very direct and it's more eager to turn than the Fabia. I am finding the 1.2 tsi 105 has a nice turn of speed and the 6th gear is great for cruising very economically - the 55 litre tank will help on long trips too. That i40 is a few clases above but I am amazed by the boot and rear legroom. Mum also found the rear seat more reclined and supportive than the Fabia. Some have criticised the interior on here but I find the dash simple and elegant and I like the grain of the plastics. There is less intrusion of the centre console than in the new Octavia too. Personally, I think it looks pretty nice - even classy. I am not sure how I could spend so little to get so much with any other car. Andy.

Volvo v40 or whatever it is? Focus based one?

54mpg is good - your hire one has 10k miles?

The 105's like mine have a six speed box which is good for cruising.

lol i just say an i40 on the motorway and went oh that looks a similar shape but doesn't look Passat big :D

yeah just nicely run in (or ready for selling on if you're Avis) at just over 10,000 miles - trip computer said 54.2.

even with the 5 speed on the 86bhp it didn't feel out of place on the motorway

even the odd excursion to 80+ didn't feel like it was screaming (that'd be when i pushed it (eventually) to 110 yesterday ;))

was on the Skoda website yesterday and £160 a month at 0% PCP seems like a pretty good deal!

(although an Octavia 140 tsi at £150 seemed a bigger steal!)

Both of those deals on the same annual mileage? As much as I'm a fan of my Rapid, If you were intending to get a car on PCP and hand the keys back at the end (I would guess the Octavia has a higher final purchase value) you'd be downright silly to not get the Octy.

still an 86er but not with just 7400 miles on the clock rather than the faintly ridiculous i can't believe they gave it to me in the first place 10,000 of the silver

looks better in the darker colour i think

Doom Blue! :(

We had a Fabia this colour.

People used to just look past it (background colour) and pull out.

Two prangs in the first month.

Been out and about in the 'new' Rapid for the first time today.

Funnily enough very similar to the 'old' one.

Although given the silver one was taken away for being "end of life" the irony of the fact that the first thing the blue one did was flash "SERVICE NOW" on the dash was to lost on me!

Parcel shelf also has a kink in it meaning everytime the boot is opened and closed it pops out of the holder on one side. V frustrating.

I must say that, while my view is swayed by the fact "my" Rapid is getting treated like the hire car that it is, it is truly a great car.

I needed to use it in a spirited fashion the other evening and it held a steady 75mph cruise on the motorway with next to no effort, an then when off the three lane stuff, it proved gret in the twisty bits before being hammered around an industrial estate.

It's great fun,

The teeny tiny engine gives a bit of a growl (in the car at last) when "on it" and you can hang on to a couple of gears in residential areas and no really need to worry about losing your licence or ploughing into someone's front room.

I even looked to see if i could find a Petrol blue one for sale....

That said i think i'll have a 3rd Rapid tomorrow when AVIS come to replace the blue one which despite being due a service at 20k and having only 7.5k on the clock is dislaying "Service Now" on the dash at every start up.

Better safe than sorry i guess.

Not sure but it does seem a bit thirstier than the silver one, although it may just be that i've actually driven it further i'm not sure!
