Back Again...Some questions!

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, old member here but can't for the life of me remember my old username and password!

Used to own a MKII Fabia Vrs and loved it, swapped to a Toyota GT86 which was a lot of fun, spent loads of money on modifications, but is now up for sale :(

A new job and considerable commute has led me back to skoda and i have ordered a Monte Carlo Tech estate diesel in black!

Anyway, my questions lie with optional extras which you can't add, I've spoken to my dealer about adding the eibach springs who says it will be 320 to fit at PDI. anyone on here got them on their monte or got any photos? can't find any! What does it ride like?

Second is arm rest, dealer quoted me 250 to supply and fit which i find laughable! anyone know where to source one from and fit myself?

Anyone been able to wangle any other freebies when ordering a tech? so far I've only managed mats! they won't budge on the price as they say its already discounted. Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi there,

Nice choice, I have a Tech Black Edition Petrol Hatch :-)

As far as the arm rest goes most advertised on e-bay are from dealers, expect to pay circa £140.00 plus postage or order it from your dealer, just found this one on  e-bay: -

There is a thread on here about fitting it: -

I had rear parking sensors fitted to mine by the dealer and you can also have Cruise control retrofitted to.

Hi mate.

Not sure about the rest but the arm rests arent too difficult to fit yourself if your a practical kinda guy. You can easily save yourself £100 if you do this.

Theyre on ebay for about £145 for a genuine one, im not sure how much skoda sell it for themselves. But they do come with instructions of how to fit, and there are guides around here. I think about 45 mins to 1 hour to do.

Read reviews though, they say they can get in way of handbrake. Not such a big deal for dsg cars but more so on manuals apparently.

Woops. You already beat me to it Prykey. Haha. Nevermind

I've got 40mm lowering Eibach spring on my Monte hatch (dealer fitted them) the ride is no worse than before I changed them. I've just looked through my photos and can't find any, will take some and post later.

Thanks for the replies.

I looked at cruise but dealer quoted me 450 for it, no way I was gonna pay that!.

I had H&R lowering springs on my vrs last time and was pretty impressed. But dealer fitted eibach's look a good option as they retain the warranty.

Thanks for the links about the arm rest i will be buying one and fitting myself after reading the guide, looks fairly straight forward.

Looks good! are the eibach's 40mm drop? only ones I can find are 30mm for the 1.6TDi.

I went through my dealer and they contacted Eibach where they confirmed 40mm.

Thanks for that. Think ill order them through my dealer then. Quite reasonably priced which is surprising!

A member on here the other day posted that the Dealership told them they could not have the Eibach fitted on the Monte at the PDI

because they were for the vRS.

But then there are tw!ts like that in Dealership that will just go along with something they think someone told them.

I was quoted £375 inc VAT by my dealer to supply and fit  cruise control, still thinking about it

When I first asked the dealership they did say that the VRs and Monte springs are listed differently but it takes some looking for. If you have a good parts man it makes a world of difference, I even enquired about an ARB and remap and they even found a price for those.

The Information on an 'Official Remap' done by a Skoda Franchise, that does not Invalidate the Skoda Warranty would have been interesting to pursue.

There is no such thing available, is there?

There have been Dealership Salespeople that say there is,

They must be Underwriting the Warranty if they are doing it.

Don't Awesome GTI cost less than that?

My dealership are a Revo dealer. I think that they must pay out of their own pocket if something goes wrong, rather than SUK if warranty work is needed. I could be wrong though!

You could be wrong,

there are some that do not even get communication from them let alone Warranty Cover when things go wrong.

The Skoda Manufacturers Warranty is invalidated, and if the Dealer doing a Re-map says they cover the Warranty on Engine and Drivetrain, you will need that T&C in writing.

& a Warranty Certificate or Letter that confirms that.

Yeah I don't think I will be using them for a remap anyway, but I would definitely be wanting it in writing if I did about the no change to my warranty!

Whats the general opinions on who to use for a remap on the 1.6TDi anyway? Shark are close to me, and hear nothing but good things. APR got one for it yet?

On the springs point above, the Monte will have different spring part reference to the vRS.

When I organised the H&R Group Buy with AKS tuning there were several Monte Variant based on the the engine as these all have different weight distribution that the springs need to account for, in the same way that hatch and estate are different spring sets.  It would be unwise to fit Monte 1.6diesel estate springs to a vRS and V.V

So if Skoda only have the part code listed for vRS spec Eibach springs, then actually i can well understand their comments on availability on the Monte.  You don't want to fit the wrong poundage springs to your car.  Of course it's 50/5 as to what the real story is and whether this is the case or just salesperson ignorance, as George constantly says, it would be nice if they would put some of this in writing for the customers.

Agreed Sparkly, I need to check with my dealer to make sure they are the specific springs for the Monte!

Slightly off topic, just checked your build thread, nice to see you have my old intake in there! hope you're enjoying it!

Really?

How many members have owned this intake, lol?

Dirty Harri

AJFisher

Me

You sure it's yours? or are you one of the above :giggle:, regardless you can't have it back now

Edit: PS, thanks for reading the thread :D

haha I bought it from Dirty Harri! and it was me who used the silicone tape to stop it rubbing when it was installed. That's what makes it recognisable.

Yeah, really liking the car and what you've done with it. Big into detailing myself and really enjoying your work!

If I'd have known it was fourth hand when I got it, I would have haggled more :D

I love it, really brings something appealing to the engine noise, let's you know what the turbo is up to, but best of all really accentuates the Supercharger Whine at lower revs, even more so with the map.

haha you should of done mate, AJFisher had it CHEAP off me! ;)

Yeah I loved it on mine. miss my vrs loads, wish I didn't get rid of it!! one of the best mods you can do imo.

Aw man, don't going telling me stuff like that.

Can i please now go more OT from the Skoda & ask.

How was life with the GT86, how was it after the tyres change.?

& What were the running costs in fuel compared to when you had the Twincharger.
