Buying a Roomster this week

Featured Replies

I am trading in my 2006 small 4x4 SUV against a Roomster.

Buying a 2010 1.2L petrol SE off Skoda dealer, one previous lady owner, done 22,000 miles.  White with full glass roof. Comes with Skoda 12 months warranty.

Read overall good reviews on various web sites, only driven this one for a short test drive, initially like it.  I am retired, need economy of fuel & road tax, with  space inside to carry around stuff.

Am living in hilly part of Wales, no fast roads, rarely will be on dual carriageway/motorway

What sort of MPG can I expect {am a careful driver}?

This car has new front tyres & part worn rears, what mileage do tyres do?

What is the service intervals and are they expensive?

What are driving tips for small turbo petrol engine in hills & bends?

Any other points & comments would be gratefully received, TIA for your replies.

Hi Dinas and welcome to Briskoda.....and Roomster ownership.

I'm retired too, and economy and space were major considerations for my choice of vehicle - as was the availability of the glass roof.

I love the glass roof on mine and never close the blinds.

Mine's the old 1.9 diesel, so very economical and unfair to compare with yours.

That said, I expect you will get a minimum of 40mpg.

Enjoy your new car.

Hi Dinas and welcome to the forum..I have a 1.2 Roomster with the 86bhp engine and its a great car. Very verstaile and reasonable to run.The Tsi engine is excellent and should be more than satisfactory for the hilly area you have to live with..As always fuel economy is relative to the weight of the `right foot` and again the hills you encounter but its a versatile engine, good range of power and round town, up and down, in the 30`s mpg should be achievable. Certainly miles better than your previous car.. The small turbo kicks the power in as you need it, just drive to the prevailing conditions and the engine will deliver the power as you need it on the hills and bends.

Tyre wise cant think they will be any worse than other small fwd drive cars, whilst servicing will be ok with your local regular garage, as long as they know to fill it only with the VAG recommended oil and not just usual 20w/50 stuff..Otherwise happy motoring

Hi Dinas. I have the 1.2Tsi 105ps (77Kw) and it is a brilliant engine. In my every day commute to work she has to defeat ca. 10Km half of them going uphills and the other half downhills. In that case I get from 7.5lt / 100Km up to 9.8lt / 100km. But the car runs really cold.

If I run 10Km while engine is cold outside the city then I get a consumption from 5.6lt / 100km to 6.5lt / 100Km.

Travelling in country roads at speeds from 70kph to 100kph fully loaded (two adults and two kids in child seats plus an over the top loaded boot) its consumption is from 4.7lt / 100Km up to 5.8lt / 100Km.

Travelling in highway at speeds from 100kph to 130 kph (mostly 115 kph) fully loaded as above she consumes from 5.9lt / 100 Km up to 6.6lt / 100Km.

Travelling at highway mostly at 110 - 120 kph with two adults and their staff at the boot, a full tank gives me about 1000km autonomy (+ - 20), That makes ca 6lt / 100Km.

Fuel conumption always depends on abient temperature and traffic conditions. One thing that I have noticed these three and a half years I drive the car is that when it rains the consumption is a bit higher (ca. 0.5 lt / 100Km).

Congratulations on joining an exclusive club.  I was beginning to think I was the only owner of a white Roomster in the UK!  In 8 months and 8k miles I have yet to see another one out on the road!  Though having said that the recent weather has left mine somewhat short of "glistening" white :giggle:

Which 1.2 litre engine is it?  There is a 69BHP 3 cylinder non-turbo that is cheap to insure but has somewhat sluggish performance that is not rewarded with especially good economy.

The 1.2 TSi turbo engine comes in 2 flavours - 86BHP and 105BHP - both give good performance and economy.

The Roomster is a great car!  Still loving the versatility of the interior space and total absence of any squeaks or rattles.

1.2 turbo 4 cylinder petrol, SE spec

Previous vehicle was Shogun 4x4 Pinin, 5 door 2L petrol, averaging 28-30mpg, and 26K fronts & 28K rears  {miles} out of Bridgestone Duelers

I am hoping for mid 40's at least mpg out of the Roomster driving carefully.

Whats the trick on hills, speed & revs up before starting to climb?

Congratulations with your new Roomster. It looks pretty good. I'm waiting for pictures from cabin. Does it is 63 kW or 77 kW version of the 1.2 TSI? I don't have to do any tricks when climbing because of DSG transmission :)

Yours will certainly be lighter on tyres than mine is. I have the 1.9 diesel, which really weighs down the front, and since more than half of my driving is on twisty B roads, I only get around 15k from the fronts before they're worn down to near the 3mm limit. Rears wear much less, my current set has the same 15k on them and I'm probably still around 7mm. Though I can't say how long they last as when my fronts wear out I rotate the new tyres onto the back.

Whats the trick on hills, speed & revs up before starting to climb?

There is not really a trick just work out where the power band is. With the DSG box the revs are kept above 2,000 when you want power and closer to 1,000 for economy.

Up to Faintree Skoda in Telford , very nice company to deal with.

Filled the car to the brim, and again back here. 20 miles flat dual carriageway, then 130 miles up over the mountains and down the hilly & winding coast road. 3.18 gallons = just under 50mpg.

Pleased with the comfort, interior space and light inside with glass sun roof, lots of space inside & storage areas. Just need an 8 year old to show me how to alter/set the dash display with the info I need.

I'm glad you like your Roomster.

Be aware, more you drive your Roomster, more you like it :)

It's now more snowy than in a long time here. Roomster is surprisingly easy to handle with low grip and it's also very warm inside in cold weather.
