Octavia combi Tdi 150 4x4

Featured Replies

I Just noticed you can now order the Tdi 4x4 combi in Elegance trim with the 1.6 or 2.0 Tdi engines.

I had to load My SE trim when I ordered my 4x4 last year to get it up to near elegance trim that I really wanted but it did not exist then.

Any way I priced up an elegance today and it would cost me now another £1200 more than I paid And for that the extras I would get are 17" alloys, alcantara seats,Auto dim mirror and light assist

So any one wanting a 4X4 Combi would probably be better off going for an Elegance trim now and trying for some more discount.

Yes it has been mentioned before this trim was going to become available soon for the 4x4 but to late for me, as my SE is now waiting at Grimsby docks for transport to the dealers :)

However going by the configurator and as suspected would be the case, the raised ride hight and stone guard are not listed as options; SUK wouldn't want their nice bling spec 17" alloys upgrading to 16" :giggle:

Also not available is the folding front seat.

Both of the above are included in my spec, just waiting now to meet the car to check they built her to order - Skoda have caught me out once before with wrong build :S

Hi

When did your car arrive in Grimsby ? As my car was build week 3 and as far as I know is still at the port of Emden awaiting a ship .

I have a tracking number for it and it does say awaiting shipment.

My dealer said I have to Waite until March to take delivery .

Mine likewise WK3; so there's a coincidence B)

She arrived early Friday morning on the Schelde Highway and there appears to have been two further shipments yesterday on the Isar and EMS Highway's.

However none of these three ships have returned to the Skoda mooring at Emden, so unsure when the next shipment might be.

Regard delivery, then my dealer has been pressing for as soon as possible rather than wait. As she is now at Grimsby within a week of their delivery window, they are pushing the transport people to get her delivered to them, to meet their own stated delivery deadline to me the customer :giggle:

Hope to find out tomorrow if she will be available for collection next weekend; fingers crossed.

Know from speaking to Skoda UK and others, if dealers request a delayed delivery date then cars get held at the ports, either Emden or the UK depending where they are when the hold comes through. So if your dealer is holding for March the car might be parked up until maybe mid Feb at Emden :wonder:

Hi

I contacted my dealer to say I would take the car when it arrived but he seamed reluctant to do that,Possibly he has sold too many and Can not cope with sorting them all out.

My spec is 150tdi SE 4x4 with headlight wash,sat nav,col maxi dot,arm rest,multi function steering wheel,var boot floor,cruise control,sunset glass,led rear lights,front mud flaps,boot liner,door sill trims,winter tyres.

Similar to me then with a pile of options :giggle:

Stone guard and raised ride height

Winter pack

Headlight washers

Cruise control

Variable boot floor

Sunset glass

Spare wheel

Colour Maxidot

Later additions to order;

Fold down front passenger seat; became available a week after placing the order :)

Extended 5 year warranty

Mats, front mud flaps and sill covers (particular design I'm after ;)  ) sorting myself via a superskoda order and OEM steel winters with matching Nordic wheel trims are waiting for the car to arrive and looking at the weather not soon enough; just sold the Yeti winters, so I'm back on Conti summers with only 3mm of tread left

Hi

That is interesting as I did order mine with the winter pack but cancelled it as a was worried about the reflections you can get with the heater wires and also I did not think it would get much use and I would have to look at those wires all year.

Also debated ordering the rough road pack like you have but my car won't ever go off-road as such only the odd muddy field not rough tracks etc and as the ride height is only 15mm more I think that Is to cover the fact that the plastic stone guards underneath will actually lower the ground clearance.

I used to own a land rover TD5 90 just for off-road use and like a lot of people with similar vehicles thought that the more acc you fit to it would make it better off-road more so than a standard land rover

when I weighed it I had added 200kg of metal to it just to protect it,DIff guards, fuel tank guard, front sump guard, sill guards, rear corner guards, bumper etc and when I spoke to a land rover driving instructor he said that all There vehicles were standard apart from more off-road orientated tyres and they could withstand the use they gave them every day.

It makes you think how we like to spend the money to feel we have improved our vehicles.

I will buy another set of wheels though to put my standard tyres on,But they will be Skoda alloy wheels to keep the car looking standard.

The winter pack was one of the must haves for me, mainly for the screen, which I have on the Yeti and on some Fords a few years back. Gets used for both misting as well as ice; press the button and any mist is gone in seconds without the need for a noisy fan :)

Only time I really notice the wires is in thick fog but it's no real problem, as you easily get used to there presence.

Rough road pack is again another very desirable option and I don't think it adds much extra weight in real terms. Having had experience of the standard and fairly flimsy insulation cover come loose (only held on with self tappers), then a proper bolted on strengthened thermoplastic sump guard makes more sense, IMHO obviously. Plus any extra ground clearance is always useful on dirt tracks and snow conditions, again for my own experiences. Oh quoted raised ride hight clearance is 154mm, which is about the same as a Yeti Greenline, not to bad a compromise to the current 4x4 Yeti's useful 180mm.

Regard winters I did look at the proper Octy III 16" winter alloys and to be fair they didn't seem a bad price a month or two back but I'm not all that fussed on look, more practicality so went with the the approved VAG steels for winter use (6J rather than 6.5) and matching wheel trims.

Rainworth for example quoted £134.99 each for the 6Jx16 ET48 Star winter alloys P/N 5E0071494A 8Z8

Hi

I can see some of your reasons for the heated screen but when I know it is going to be frosty I just cover mine with a cover,Also your windscreen might be quick to de ice but you will still have to get out and de ice all your side windows etc .

I did consider the xenon light pack as well as the winter pack but decided £1200 for that was a bit much.

One question I would like to ask you is why did you want the 4x4 octavia and will you go off road with it ,I see you had a yeti ,Didn't you fancy the new face lift version of that as that has a higher ride height than a 4x4 combi octavia.

Before ordering my car I had a test drive in a new Yeti Adventure run out model in black and silver,I thought the drive was nice it cornered well with no roll and was well equipped and looked good but I could not ignor the fact that it had the older Haldex and older engine with higher emissions with out stop start ect,I did not like the look of the facelift 2014 model Yeti and so went for the octavia instead.

Prefer how the 4x4 drive to the conventional 2wd versions; this will be my sixth 4x4 car/crossover (five have been VAG with Haldex). Also feel they are safer, particularly on our local rubbish roads in winter weather, at the early and late times of the day I tend to be coming and going to/from work across the Wolds; with the correct tyres obviously.

Regard why the Octy III rather than another Yeti, well that’s down to a number of reasons but one of the main ones is the Octy's newer platform and engine which is cheaper to run but with more go, plus like yourself I think Skoda have bodged the Yeti FL.

Oh do I take them off-road, then not normally, other than the occasional dirt/gravel track, rough ground countryside car parks plus the odd grass verge and sometimes getting round abandoned 2wd motors in the snow :giggle:

Hi

Sounds like we both bought the octavia for the same reasons,You simply can not beat having all 4 wheels driving the vehicle when you

Need to be places all year round.

My car tracker now says it is at the uk port.

Mines been at the port almost 4 days now, getting it released to the dealer seems the main stabling block at the moment, not helped by the dealer stating their chasing it but in reality not :S

Oh whereabouts in York's are you if you don't mind me asking :wonder:

Near to the Capital of the Wolds for me :giggle:

Hi

Nr Driffield then ?

I am on the hull road on the way in to York.

Are you getting the 4x4 alloy door sill covers for yours if so are they Gen skoda ?

Yes we are out near Driff and I currently commute to work in York four days a week; occasionally via Hull road  :giggle:

Look out for a white Yeti this week and fingers crossed a white Octy III next

Regard the sill covers then yes they are the 4x4 ones. Like most things it's difficult to say what's real and not but they look the part, have a Skoda number on them and a Skoda leaflet enclosed in the sealed packaging.

Bought some Yeti footprint ones from superskoda for the Yeti three years ago and had no bother with them. True the price is more than the UK dealers but it's nice to have something a little different.

Hi Pete,

not driven the car today, got carried away with the Autoglym and fitting winters etc. Very impressed with the drive home yesterday, seems to offer a smooth ride and accelerates without trying very much. Mind the steering didn't somehow quite feel settled at motorway speed but this could have been down to a number of things including the weather. Will see how we go on with changing to winters.

Pleased I went for the colour maxi, big improvement in clarity over the old monochrome types and the headlights seem good enough, so I'm glad I wasn't tempted by the xenon's, although I'm still intending to fit nightbreakers to the dipped beam.

Had a few odd things in terms of observations, the rear wiper operation seems to have a fractional delay from moving the lever to the wiper actually moving. Then today after putting the front wipers in the maintenance position could I get them to work normally again, faffing for about five minutes moving the wiper control until they came back to life.

Oh also had an odd thing yesterday while using the hands free to make a call, instead of normal ringing noise coming from the speakers I was getting some very strange howling sounds and when it connected I couldn't make out what the person I was trying to speak to was saying, again due to some further very strange sounds. Rang off and rang back and all was well :wonder:

Also found a small blemish in the paintwork but being white it's not easy to spot, so probably why it was missed. Going to leave it rather than try do anything about it and more than likely make matters worse.

Hoping the wind abates a bit so we can get out tomorrow and give her a try out over the Wolds, the new winters for one thing need bedding in and 'cleaning' of release agent before we get any more rain.

Hi

All Sounds very promising ,Interested in what sort of mpg you are getting so far ?

I have decided to have the standard tyres removed before delivery and some Hankook optimo 4S all season tyres fitted to it,I will sell the original tyres .

My octavia I have now has had goodyear vector 4 seasons tyres on it for over a year and a half now and I have been very impressed with the low noise level, grip in dry and wet and on snow last year ,I would of bought another set for the new car but the price of them has gone up a lot.

Tyre dealers I spoke to recommended these Hankook tyres as a direct competitor to the goodyears so I thought I would try a set to see.

What is yours like with the raised ride height can you tell much difference in the handling,Also what tyres did it have on when you collected it ?

Cheers

Pete.

Hi Pete,

very impressed with the handling so far, very controlled and in typical quattro fashion the thing runs on rails particularly though the twisty bits; initial impression is this could be our best 4x4 as yet in terms of being a very capable drivers car. Also like the stance the extra 15mm gives to the car, difficult to explain but somehow it just looks right to my eye.

Supplied tyres unfortunately are Continental PremiumContact 5; not a fan of Conti tyres, as I've not had a set yet that didn't wear unevenly, or tram line, or offer rubbish grip in the wet.

A few additional thoughts which I didn't remember when writing my previous post:

1. The seats are equally supportive when compared to the excellent seats in the old model Scout, but more comfortable in that they are a bit softer. Although I love the support that the seats in the Scout give, I found that after a few hours driving my legs got a bit sore (from upward pressure from the seats, I believe). The new seats are much better in that respect.

2. My new Octavia was a showroom car and it was incredibly fortunate that it had many extras that I would have wanted. One of these was the Rough Road pack, as I have covered in another post (http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/170104-rough-road-pack/?p=3601173). One that I would not have specified is the Bi-Xenon lights which are OK but not in my view worth the vast amount they cost. I would imagine that the standard lights might be as good, particularly with powerful bulbs fitted. I do wonder whether all the fancy moving around that you get with the Bi-Xenons actually makes that much real-world difference, and I am equally sceptical about the value of the cornering fog lights. Perosnally i would like to turn them off but this does not seem to be possible.

3. I am sure that the new generation Haldex is much faster in operation than the old one. With the new one you never get any sense of it cutting in but I am sure that it is coming in progressively whenever needed, such as roundabouts in the rain. Although given all the other stuff that is going on, like the XDS differential, it could be other things that keep the car going in the direction you want before the Haldex has to do it's stuff! With the old one there are occasions when you can feel a definite clunk when it cuts in, particularly when you are in muddy conditions.
