Should my boot lid open automatically?

Featured Replies

I have an Octy Elegance (2011). When I push the boot release button on my key fob the boot, as it has since new, releases from the latch but never springs open. I have always wondered whether the boot should actually spring open as this would make sense when approaching the car with hands full. I had begun to wonder this even more as I have recently bought a Superb and the saloon part of the split boot fully opens when the button is pushed. Hoping someone can 'lift the lid' on this one

If you hold the boot release button on the key fob for a couple of seconds the boot should open slightly, enough for you to raise the boot. Don't leave the keys inside when you close the boot, because it automatically locks.

I'm guessing no, but if you bought a stronger strut with more oomph in it I'm sure it would.

Thanks guys, the Superb does, but then so does the bonnet. which is brill when filling the washers on a dark morning

I recently had to lubricate the locking mechanism on my car recently as it wasn't popping up when you pressed the middle remote button.  It doesn't open but the as said above it should unlock and release the catch.

No it doesn't. Even with new struts.

There is a possibility of adding springs and / or bigger rubber bump stops (for want of a better word) to make it do so.

There are threads on here about it but it seems plagued by short life of the spring and susceptibility to not working in colder temperatures.

this is for estate, but same thing can be done for hatch.

Shame that its not available as standard:(
