variable service indicator

Featured Replies

Our new Superb is (so I've been told) on variable servicing, is there any way for me to query how long the computer thinks before the next service is due.

FWIW The Audi A3 that the Superb is replacing allows me to press the left (clock) button briefly whilst stationary and "next service in 14200 miles" appears in the display.

I was told something different, but it didnt work. I gave up worrying as it asks you for a service from 1000 miles down.

The Superb doesnt count down. As Andy says it just flashes up 1000 miles before. Ave mileage is 16,000 for the first variable I find.

Mine flashed up today @15,200 miles, saying SERVICE IN 1000 MILES, I was told 30,000 or two years. Any ideas?

Maximum mileage is 20k between services.

The 'Variable Service' means exactly that! according to my local dealer it will ask to be serviced anywhere between 6,000 & 30,000 miles depending on how the car is driven, (stop start or motorway miles, high revs etc) & wether you top the oil up regularly or not. apparently if you allow the oil level to drop low enough to set of the low oil level warning it automatically sets your service warning to the minimum possible miles, i.e. 6k

And due to the amount of oil (PD engine in particular) that is consumed by new vehicles a lot of people get the low oil warning light before their first service. (mine came on at 5k)

Also my local dealer now supplies a 1ltr bottle of top up oil as part of every service due to the VAG engines thirst for oil.

I had mine switched onto fixed 10,000 mile service intervals as on variable it came up at only 6,000 miles. due to the mileage i do 1000 miles warning for a service is no-where near enough, my dealer (apart from being useless & having absolutely no idea about customer care) can only ever book me in for a service with at least 3 weeks notice!!

You can definately do more than 20,000 miles without varible service coming up as one of my collegues has done 23,000 miles now and still not been asked for service! he phoned skoda to ask and they said just keep waiting!

My superb 130pd is now on 74,000 miles and has only just stopped needing regular top ups between servicing and therefore is only just run-in!! it definately feels better the more miles you put on them and i'm convinced it's actually a bit faster now than when it was new!! A testament to the VAG engines and their longevity (I hope). :)

Maximum mileage is 20k between services.

Not for my diesel it isn't, its 30,000 :)

Ok will double check the parameters on the Superb. I thought the min was 15,000km and the max 30,000km (10,000 miles - 20,000 miles) it certainly is on the Octavia.

found this on the Skoda website:

"On Variable servicing, intervals are determined by driving styles and conditions of use. The on-board computer will indicate when a service is required which could be up to approx. 20,000 miles for petrol engines, 30,000 miles for 4 cylinder diesel and 24,000 miles for V6 Diesel."

so maybe you're both right!

Mine came on at 14k. with mainly town/short journey drives.
