mufflerectomy in birmingham?

Featured Replies

I think only reason I "ignored" you when I seen you is because I was approaching the sound barrier. By time I reached for a flash you was long gone past ha

Haha I don't mean you ;) that doesn't count it was pitch black and you were part of the rally by the looks of it ;)

There's loads of other Fabias around here driven by older folks!

  • Author

its in a different league mate i love the fabia only thing is the handleing isnt as good as the fiesta but hopefully il sort that out when ive got the money for a suspension setup

has anyone got a video of one with a totally straight pipe?

Mine has a decat and I'm thinking of getting rid of the rear silencer but don't want it to sound like a fart.

I know with the cats in place they are quieter, they also make a coo sound with the cat still in place if I'm not wrong?

With standard turbo it will sound a little "farty" lol.

Straight pipe but bigger turbo

i have my cat still and just a straight pipe replacing my back box and it doesnt make the owl noise :( and dont notice any difference in sound on idle but only slightly louder on full throttle im thinking of gutting the cat out and leaving the box in place so it looks like its still there

aha thats interesting, the owl noise is caused by back pressure.

the mk7 golf 1.9tdi has the cat right on the turbo down pipe and they 'coo' but with it removed it doesn't.

mine is the other way round, its decat with the standard back box. it sounds very spooly, you get lots whistling through the otherwise standard exhaust note, its possibly a little louder at idle.

Are you sure mate? When I had my back boxes removed from my Focus it instantly coo'd

Unless I read your post wrong haha

ive poped down to dku and my exhaust is being done as i speak thanks for all the info

Maj and Dana top blokes!

Well i don't totally understand why its caused but seems cars that have their cat right on the turbo housing 'coo'

Once decanted, the don't.

With the back box removed, but the cat still in place it just won't silence as much so can see that sounding good.

Anyone else recommend anywhere in Birmingham?? thinking about getting mine done or get a turbo back system

£60 by Powerflow

Is that with a decat too?

Just removal of the backbox. I contacted 2 different Powerflow garages today and received responses.

This was for the mufflerectomy and a new tip of my choice at the end. One quoted me £120 and another quoted me £60.

Kingswinford Tyres Limited are the ones that quoted me £60. Just replied back to them to confirm whether there quote includes a new oval tip as well, they mite have thought i wanted my existing tip put back on..

The £60 quote has been confirmed, it includes a brand new tip on the end.

The Powerflow tailpipes are circa £50 to start with!!!

The one I want is £83 with VAT,before they do any pipework.Had to laugh at Demon Tweeks, they said to do a mufflerectomy with 6x4 oval tailpipe with twin inserts it would be circa £200!!!!  :wonder:

Demon tweeks quoted me around £140 - £150 for a tip change lol.

I thought they didn't understand what i wanted at first but i asked them whether this included a brand new oval tip or would they just put my old one back on the end and they said it would be a brand new Powerflow tip and they can book me in for any time this week

Going to get it done near the end of the week hopefully, and a remap the following week.

Tidy.Be interesting to see how you get on.

Did they give you a choice of tailpipes?

Not 100% on that as i only asked about the oval tip but i don't see why not, unless it was a more expensive tip

A vid would be even better! :)

Got a quick one while he was doing it

I'll take a better pic and do a video in a few days, it sounds quite good, like having an aftermarket backbox on a petrol basically

There was a choice of around 20 different tips to choose from as you can see in the background, a few twin pipes, oval ones and the standard circle ones that most people put on petrol cars

I chose one that was similar to the standard tip, slightly smaller but big enough to sit nicely in the gap on the bumper

They can also decat the exhaust system for around £40-£50, basically cut the cat out and put a straight pipe in its place, would that work or do you need a sports cat, etc?? I'm not interested in doing that myself but mite be helpful for some of you guys.
