Will premiums rise or fall in 2014?

Featured Replies

Thousand upon thousands of flooded cars around the UK in the past couple of years, major Insurance payouts,

I hardly see where less Crash for Cash', and Whiplash claims and reduction in pay outs can pay the extra millions from water damaged vehicles.

It will be interesting to see how the Body Repair Industry takes advantage of the floods and repair or write off.

The Rain/Floods might be the Goose that Laid the Golden Egg.

If Insurance costs do not rise, surely Underwriters will loose their fortunes, or at least their profits.

Can you tell me how you/the industry deals with Car Body Shop companies that deliberately inflate the prices because they primarily deal with Insurance claims?

I know of one near me (recently) that asks if its an insurance job or not

We're brokers so we have no direct control over the insurers' repairers. There's much more being done in the industry these days to reduce claims costs though. Unscrupulous repairers won't be safe for long.

Don't bury your heads in the sand

Theyre all at it

Have been for years!!

Its another thing the industry needs to look at!!

EVERYBODY knows the first question they ask at a repair shop is 'is it going through your insurance?'

& EVERYBODY knows why!!

Exactly

Until this is addressed, premiums will stay high...and I'm not talking about back street repair firms,.....

I mean Insurance Company approved repairers

That's not necessarily because they are dodgy though.

If you are getting your car fixed on insurance you expect it to be done to the highest standard, replacing every damaged part with a genuine spare.

If people are paying themselves they may want or need things done cheaper - panels repaired and filled rather than replaced, and so on.

Most insurers insist on pattern parts to keep costs low & their profits high.

Luckily I am with a good insurer and they use genuine parts.

Hang on a min, premiums went down in 2013?? Mine didn't, maybe it was the extra year of no claims I earned which have spooked the underwriters.

On average, TeflonTom.

Perhaps the repairer asks if it's an insurance job because they need to know whether to wait for the insurer's approval to repair before starting work, so they don't book workshop time until they have the confirmation.

There's probably also a difference in when they'll get paid for the job too.

Dunno, we just try to find people the best cover/price combination. The repair side is down to the insurers.

COUGH!!

( A well known Body repair shop near me)

"Why are your prices so high?"

"That's because we do mainly Insurance work Sir"

I know I had a car bump the back of mine last year, and my insurer wanted to take my car 80 miles to their preffered repairer. Asked whether they used 'genuine' Audi parts, I was told they were 'as good as!'

I rang Accident Exchange & they dealt with the claim after that, needless to say I had my car repaired by an Audi approved centre with all genuine parts. My insurance company sent me a email campaign warning me not to do it, each mail getting more venomous & the text getting larger & redder.

I can't recommend Accident Exchange highly enough, they even put me in a S5 cab to pootle about in :)

You do have to be really careful with some of the credit hire companies and also check your details on the policy to make sure you didn't take a discount for limit yourself to restricted repairers.

Assuming you're ok there, then you can go straight to a main dealer if you like.

With our policies you can choose your own repairer. This is great if you have a preferred local garage that you use. The only issue is that the provision of a courtesy car is subject to availability and the garage's discretion.
