Grinding noise when braking..

Featured Replies

Sounds just like pads are shot but looking through the wheel they look like they have lots of pad left? It sounds like its rear wheels... Any ideas folks... Before i jack it up in the wet/cold!

Bit of crap got in between the pads and discs i expect.

I'd guess, if not that mentioned above, rusty discs, especially the inner faces. Take the brakes to bits and clean up if rusting is not too bad.

the outer edge ( bit right on top of the disc where pads dont really touch) of my rear discs had alot of rust on and it sounded like i was dragging a sledge when braking ..... grind it all of paint the disc and all will be fine again

Or, rest large screwdriver on top of calliper and turn disc while applying enough pressure to clean up the edge of the discs.

yep you can do it that way .... i wanted to paint mine to stop the salt rusting them up to the same state again in a few weeks

I reckon rust on the inner face could be the one...but the noise would go after a few good braking sessions dont ya think? , cba to go investigating now but ill get i look tomorrow night. Dont use it anyway. Typical as its for sale/almost sold!

When the disc inner faces rust up, they will probably get severely rusted before you take notice of it, by then, a it will take a lot more than lots of hard braking to clean them up - either skimming them (not cost effective) or replacing the discs is the only cure.

Disks are all fine, and edges. Took rear pads out and cleaned/greased calipers/rear of pads and its all good. Gonna do the fronts at the weekend. The amount of muck n cac in it im not suprised the pads wernt moving smoothly!
