Goodbye for now

Featured Replies

Well, it's time to bid good-bye to all my Yeti friends.  I've moved to a Superb Combi 170 DSG 4x4 Elegance.

I'll keep checking back but thanks for all the great comments and good crack over the past 4 years.

John

Well said, I will be Yeti-less at the end of the month, but I will still be here. This is the best forum group around by far. You will have the Superb, I will still have my Octavia so we can still be part of Briskoda and these wonderful posters on here. I've looked at the Nissan Qashqai forums and believe me I will not be participating very much I'm afraid

Good luck with the Superb, John.  See you around... :hi:

Enjoy the burb, great motor particularly with 4x4

Will also be saying goodbye to the faithful old Monster shortly but remaining like yourself with Skoda.

Regards as always,

TP

What are you getting TP?

John look at TP,s signature at the bottom of his post.

Jonceebee must agree with you on the said Nissan forum, as posted quite a while ago when Marie K joined the Yeti forum.

I agree. Most, if not all of the other owner forums are dull in comparison to Briskoda.

Top marks to whoever set it up - in a word brilliant!

Thought i spotted you on the QQ forums last night! :)

Thought i spotted you on the QQ forums last night! :)

I was trying my best to put some life in it, but unfortunately it did not seem to work. I just hope I do not need to ask any help questions etc.

Since the brief glory of 240/260Z Datsun/Nissan have specialised in the car as domestic appliance-built to serve the world of unconcerned non-enthusiast "motorists" many of their products are dull and cheaply designed/built and trundle the roads in a bland and unemphatic way-they become family hacks pensioners mobility aids and cheap minicabs. Why would you expect their forums to reflect anything else? The QQ has up to now fitted into the blandstream-good luck to those who hope the new one is transformed by a smattering of consumer electronics.

The old Patrol-from experience in Egypt and Africa- approaches military grade quality and the current X-trail seems a decent device. The fact that "what Car" think it is the dogs danglies says quite a lot about the target audience of that magazine. An endorsement from "Which" is all it lacks to guarantee a soporific outcome.

I am a pensioner so perhaps I already fall into the category that you relate, but the rest I disagree on. My last employers had three QQ earlier model in the fleet all have done over 90k almost faultless, and I know when I used to borrow them they were always comfortable and certainly not bland or cheaply built. Maybe not exciting, but why does everyone seem to think that excitement is the best way to drive. It isn't, safety and comfort come first, especially to pensioners and no doubt families with children, which you also refer to in a derogatory way.

It's not just What Car that gave it the top accolade, virtually every magazine I have read are saying the same too, and yes, so do Which. As I have gone out of my way to point out on my other posts, I seriously looked at upgrading my Yeti as it is a great car and I have totally enjoyed my last twelve months. But things move on, it has been a cosmetic poorly thought out face lift, the engines are old fashioned and the comfort, although acceptable is that of a mid noughties car, it feels like it and shows when compared to the QQ. Plus the price of the new Elegance makes it poor value for money.

If I have made a mistake I will be the first to admit it and will have the balls to come on here and say so, but in reality the Yeti has had it's problems, paintwork, timing chains etc. so let's not get blinded into thinking that it's the best out there. It was, it still could have been with a little more consideration from Skoda, like adding the the VAG group lean burn engines and improving the interior a little

Sorry for the derogatory element of my post-I'm 61 next week and still value the performance and handling of my second yeti-I have always been an enthusiast even when my circumstances and budget have led me into unstimulating vehicles-and do not want to be harsh on those who make a choice of something I don't fancy. One of my most boring days with a vehicle was a loaned Toyota corrola Verso which fulfills all one could hope for from such a vehicle even with a colour reversing camera but left me entirely unmoved. For me transport is a passive concept and is better done with someone else driving and ideally with room to move-trains can do it very well-driving is a pleaure and on even a workaday journey I like to positively enjoy it.

The QQ will undoubtedly do it's job well and I genuinely wish you all the best with it.

Accepted and thank you for replying. Mind you if you really want to try bland, you should have a go with my very last company car A Toyota Prius, now nothing could come anywhere near that.

It simply had nothing going for it in any way. I had this passed onto me at my previous car, a Passat, was going back to the lease company and they did not want to get me a brand new car with only 6 months to go. I could easily say it was the very worst driving I have ever had. Reliable , yes, quiet -reasonably so, steering & suspension-terrible, gearbox CVT- atrocious, rattles-unbearable. It did have LED lights though

A few years ago, before the yeti, i was looking at the now outgoing QQ and joined the same forum.

It had a few people on there that were very enthusiastic and knowledgable but there was a lot of "bling" type chat which wasn't really my thing.

What QQ did you settle on in the end if you don't mind me asking?

I haven't had the chance to test the 2014 model as of yet and the nissan site is a bit of a mess.

Almost SUK in terms of inability to decipher.

I'm also a bit perturbed by the size of the alloys but i suppose a test drive will show up if that is an issue or not.

As a pensioner who uses a Yeti as mobility aid  I take exception to your comment! :giggle:

I really wanted an automatic but the QQ is CVT and after my Prius adventures I could not drive another CVT. I tried the 1.5 Diesel and the 1.2 Petrol manuals. The 1.5 diesel was tempting due to the claimed 70.4 mpg, but somehow I can't take to diesel engines. I was surprised how good the 1.2 petrol is, much nippier than my similar Yeti, possibly because I was in charge of the gears on this, but it does have more Bhp and torque so I suppose it should be quicker. But it was the drive I really liked, so smooth and virtually no wind or road noise. The wheels on the petrol were 17 inch and on the diesel 19 inch and to be honest I could not tell the difference. I finally chose the 1.2 petrol manual Tekna model, I will seriously miss the DSG box of the Yeti, but who knows I may be back in the fold in a few years when the properly updated Yeti comes on stream

What are you getting TP?

Octavia III SE 150 4x4 with a small pile of options, oh and it's in Taxi white :giggle:

Hoping to be collecting this coming weekend if I'm lucky; got the reg number today and it should be at the dealers Thursday.

Regards,

TP

Thought you were waiting for the "14" reg. Tim, was the excitement too much for you?  Look forward to seeing your Octy. when we meet up next, I may come in my old girl, but if its after the 1st. March I'll be bringing the Q.Q, it will be be good to compare

Hi Jon,

if the dealer pulls off handover by this weekend, then they will have made their max quoted delivery date of the end of Jan, so I couldn't really argue for a delay to March. If it had been next weekend then maybe.

Anyway please pencil me in for a meet when you get the Q.Q, would be interested to see the new model. Test drove the original one back in 07 with my dad; he ended up going with a Kia Sorento.

Regards,

Tim.

Good luck with the new motors guys, stay safe!

Yes, I see your signature box.  Sounds good.  I'm enjoying the Superb and on a trip to Harrogate today, it turned in just under 50mpg.
