bottom hose cold after driving 10 miles.. this fackin car is driving me to drink.!

Featured Replies

Starting to pull my hair out with this car now and one can only describe as a piece of **** to be honest.!! I've had near enough a gut full.!!

While the car was up on the ramp earlier, something told me to feel the bottom hose.... it was cold.!

But, the temp gauge doesn't rise above 90 and car doesn't overheat ect so never though about this before.. But I just had a feeling and I guess (to my dismay) I was right..

So either the RAD is blocked or the stat is fooked.. thank God for the fans or else the engine would be cooked..!

What you reckon guys??

I'm so close to sending this turd to the crusher I can't express it enough! :-(

Thermostat stuck shut or waterpumps goosed is my guess

I am not suspecting water pump mate (without trying to sound a know all).. heaters are mint and  there is circulation with exception to the bottom hose and subsequently RAD

I would go with your first suggestion... And put money on stat 8-)

And fit an OEM one /stuck record.

Not a cheapie.

Stat usually shows up when the needle hovers at around 80 rather than 90.

I have an lds local so have to get one from there because I don't wanna drive the car to far now. Paranoid lol

Temp sits at the normal Mark Dave... It's weird.. No overheating, good heat from cabin... strange

The water pump is easy to rule out. Remove reservoir cap and raise revs to 2500rpm. If you look inside, you should see a steady stream of coolant returning from the small pipe at the side.

Yeah she does that bud, reason I say this is because 4 days ago I changed the turbo and because  I had the water lines off and she ****ed  out coolant,,, I topped her up and left run to bleed out so she does what you say for sure mate

And surely if water pump fails, no circulation means temp would shoot up and overheat...

Is there actually any coolant in the bottom hose? Could be just an airlock.

no not necessarily, the pump helps the coolant move about, but there still will be natural circulation in the engine, the name of this phenomena escapes me at the moment! Some water cooled motorcycles don't have a water pump.

...And surely if water pump fails, no circulation means temp would shoot up and overheat...

Often, the pump fails in such a way that the impeller spins on the shaft. That's often enough to give some flow through the engine (it comes out of the pipe in spurts - not a steady flow).

You often don't notice any difference to the dash reading as it lies to you :) see http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/246750-the-coolant-temp-gauge-a-question-by-sheer-curiosity/

A faulty stat is the most likely culprit, but it costs nothing to rule out the water pump.

I do notice a weird thing happen.... boost cut when she's been kicked once warmed up.

But after driving at a steady 50,then welly... goes like the clappers

I have a cam belt kit in the boot.. guess I should get a water pump and have em done at the same time then

Squeezing the bottom hose feels like there is coolant in there mate yeah.. But since having the car, I haven't done anything to the coolant system appart from remove turbo water lines, refill and bleed...

What about this?? Looks to be metal impellarared...

I know gsf do metal impeller water pumps for bmw as they to are dumb and fit plastic impeller pumps to their cars!!! You would think manufacturers would just fit proper ones to start with as its their rep at stake!! :-/

I wouldn't fit a metal impeller pump. see http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/245632-teach-the-dealer/#entry2883296

If you change the pump every time you do the cam-belt it would never fail. The metal ones can come off the shaft too and when they do they shag the housing and can wreck the block. I had a gen fitted when mine broke.

I feel your pain mate mines had a Sh&* load of money spent on it in the last 6 months :wall:

Mines had about 600 quid in just over a week of ownership mate and I'm getting close to the point i just can't give any more!! I always wanted one since they were new, now I wish I hadn't bothered :-(

How much are the water pumps for these?

U seem to be having problem after problem with this car mate av bought a few cars like this before am it really makes u so annoyed so Ano the feeling mate lol

Anymore of this I will kick my own front door in, take the car down the beach and throw a match in it.!

Car was stolen :-/

Fuk it, for now I'm just gunna stick a cheap pump in and 're do the lot in 20k I can't be arsed with it now.. I have spent enough this week. All I wanna do is drive more than 50 fukin miles without spending anything but fuel.!!!

My 25 year old e30 was never this costly.. only when I did engine conversions on it which was  my choice :-/

  • Author

Circoli water pump reserved at Euro's... 25 quid because I bought online..

I know people want to help, and a metal pump failure could be epicly bad but... after the week I've had I simply don't care.. worst case scenario I swap engine or throw in a match! That simple lol

But this will do for 20k while I get over this stupid amount of greed on the cars part :-(

By the way, be for  I come across aragent or ungrateful.. I appreciate your advice lads really so thank you

Ant 8-)

The oem one from vag is now made of metal. Must of realised plastic isn't a good idea lol

Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 4

I had my TT stat stick closed, changed for a brand new OEM one and changed both senders to OEM again. Was like night and day, car pulled more smoothly and used less fuel, all becuase the car kept thinking it was cold. However on the TT you had the ability to show boost pressure, coolant temp, etc etc all from the Climate control unit.

So I 3rd the stat as a the issue guess.

Cheers
