Steering Wheels

Featured Replies

This may be a daft question, but being a Fabia owner, I'm not up on all the Octavia stuff.

Is there a difference in available functionality through the below multifunction wheels, or is the newer one often retrofitted just because it looks nicer?

Pre-FL

I think the FL will go on the pre-FL but not the other way round?

I think they pretty much have the same functionality but the buttons are laid out differently and the FL has those scroll wheels instead of up/down buttons.

Looking at that first picture really makes me want to do a maxidot and MFSW retrofit now!

FL won't give full functionality on a pre-FL.

There are also two MFSW's for each: with & without phone controls.

Fitting a MFSW will most likely require a new steering controller to be fitted and coded.

There is also a new airbag loom needed.

The pre-FL airbag won't fit the FL wheel and vice versa.

I have pre-FL MFSW, loom & controller for sale on here.

So essentially they have the same functionality, but the FL wheel is better as it has scroll wheels instead of up/down buttons?

In essence, yes.

BUT, if you fit a FL wheel to a pre-FL vehicle, you will not get all the functions to work correctly.

At least my research came to that conclusion.

I confirm.

I've put a FL MFSW with paddles in preFL o2 vRS, and also a bluetooth retrofit.

Steering wheel controller changed for a xxxxCH.

Result is that columbus control (volume and radio) and telephone button are ok.

But for the MFD control, only the push of the right roll work (passing from "1" to "2" menu in the consumption/km menu)

Up/down and return are not working (so, I use the right stalk for up/down).

Coding in vcds is ok, dont think it comes from that.

In vcds, "measure" menu in the steering wheel controller returns values when i roll up/down and when i press return control.

Perhaps the instrument cluster cannot understand the codes sent by sterring wheel controller?

Is version of the steering controller correct, I think yes but ... ?

If anyone has an idea   ?

The cluster can't understand the function from the scroll wheel on the right side

same goes for FL without Maxidot

I looked into this and read the one scroll wheel you refer to won't work and a different steering controller won't help in this respect.

Edit: beaten to it!!
