VRS serviced and boot struts changed.

Featured Replies

Hi all

Got the 2010 VRS FL CR 170 serviced today. Very straight forward.

Fuel filter first.

Car up on jacks and axle stands then oil drained.

Oil filter removed and replaced.

Sump plug in.

Lower engine cover refitted.

Car lowered and oil put in (4 litres Shell Helix 507.00).

Ran engine for a minute or so.

Engine off and let oil settle for a few minutes.

Check and top up oil (an extra 0.6 litres)

Changed the rear boot lid gas struts (from SGS Engineering) - massive difference, much easier to open and close boot lid.

Got the pollen filter to change tomorrow.

Also checked the gearbox (6 speed manual) to see how easy it would be to change the gear oil. Plenty space to work, easy access to drain plug on bottom of box and the fill level plug on the front of the box. I would have got gear oil today but the dealer didn't have the right stuff. Will order it and change the oil now that I see how easy it is to do.

I stripped and cleaned/greased the brakes a few weeks ago and changed the air filter a couple of months ago.

Well chuffed getting the service done today. Doing it myself, I know its done right, what parts and oil were used and I saved quite a few quid.

Any links to these struts for the boot lid. As mine need doing too, one day that glass is going to smash lol

cheers

I got the ones for the Octavia II.

They made a huge difference. Now you need to hold on to the boot lid when opening it so it doesn't slam open.

will these make a difference compared to the ones fitted to a 2012 model?

I am in and out of my boot at least 5 times daily and find it a pain to lift the boot when I have stuff in hand?

Thanks

I found with ours that the boot lid stayed up OK but the struts seemed to lose their effectiveness when the boot was being closed. It was like the boot just dropped from halfway down.

Its much lighter when starting to open it now and as stated above you need to hold on to it until its fully open so it doesn't slam open. You still need to hold onto it when closing it too but as it is lighter it doesn't just drop like it did before.

The struts were £13 + vat each which isn't too expensive but they will also re-gas your original struts for less so that might be an option.

Hope that info helps.

Ok mine are fine but just thought there may be a better version

Thanks
