SD card not working, between two cars

Featured Replies

SD card from 61 Octavia put in my 62 Superb with the same stereo model/unit doesn't work.

The SD option in the media selection is greyed out, anyone got any ideas??

I've not touched the SD card since swapping from old to new car. I've also just phoned my local

Skoda dealer and they had no useful advice.

Hi, have you seen any other SD card work in the 62 Superb?

Have a nice afternoon!

Not tried another one yet, the one I have opens up when placed in the SD slot on my laptop - and shows all of

the music folders. It is formatted to FAT32 also.

What size is the SD card as my Superb would not read my 32gb SD until I upgraded to a later firmware. Worth testing with a small SD card first to make sure its not a goosed slot.

Have tried two different cards, now - both 4GB - the SD card selection option is still greyed out. Shouldn't it start to play

as soon as you insert the card without having to select anything?

If its work on the older Octy - should work on a new car.

Have u tried pressing the MEDIA button which rotates between DVD, SD, HDD etc?

Yes, have tied the media button - it only changes to AUX, SD card is grey and not selectable.

Since not tested btw old and new car,

Have u put it in a computer just to make sure it still works?

There was a thread about another members SD card not working...i ll try to find it

I seem to recall that you need an mp3 file in the root directory of the SD card in order for Columbus to recognise that the card has music on it, or have I just imagined that?

Not sure of that.

I just copy mp3 s everywhere and anywhere on SD card -

not had a problem yet - TOUCH WOOD!

Though had this ONE issue.

This ONE mp3 just wouldn't copied to HDD.

It was not the size.

Not the name length.

BUT - a SPACE between the filename and the MP3 extension!!!!

"Filename.mp3" = ok

"Filename .mp3" = cannot copy to HDD?!!!

Not sure of that.

Copying the mp3s everywhere and anywhere will work as you will have at least one mp3 file in the root directory. However, if OP has organised everything into orderly folders then he probably won't have an mp3 in the root directory. I think some firmware versions on Columbus have it as a foible: you need an mp3 file in root directory of the SD card for Columbus to recognise it has music media on the card, and then it will grant you access to view the folder structure - otherwise it just sees a load of folder names on the SD card, and nothing else. It's plausible that the Octavia has one firmware version, whereas the Superb has another.

Actually

I have no mp3 in root.

I organize all my mp3 s in folders.

Still works!

Sorry - didn't meant to mislead u, Jake...

Aha! No probs!

Small update!

I've tried the original SD card in a 62 Octavia pool car and it worked straight away as soon as I put it in the slot.

Trip to the dealers now for a new stereo and leather door trims!

Well done!

That new stereo gonna cost the dealers £3400 fitted!

Make sure u get latest maps / firmware on it too!
