Ferodo DS2500's front and rear?

Featured Replies

The car's due a service in about 2,000 miles and I know they'll mention the discs and pads need changing all round.

Was just going to go with standard discs, but i'm looking at Ferodo DS2500 pads.

My question, is it worth going for DS2500's front and rear?

Will they make that much of an improvement over DS2500's on the front and standard rear brake pads as the rears won't do that much braking anyway?

If it was my money, I wouldn't bother :D If you do a lot of track work, etc you may see a difference, but I don't think you would for fast road driving. I'm sure one of the more experienced members will be along shortly though ;)

I have only ever had them on the front, although I suppose to even out the braking you should really do both. Never felt any problems really. Their main advantage is they're more progressive and don't snatch like the OEM ones.

Si,

what's the cost for standards discs?

I got EBC grooved from SEJOC..for

would the performance pads be too hard for the standard disks?

They do wear faster, yes.

Hmm I haven't bothered with ds2500 on the rear of mine, but then again, I'm front heavy with the PD engine...

...and you now have rather a lot of weight in your boot :D :D :D

On my first furby, I bought some OEM 312mm discs (so same as the standard octy rs discs) for about

Hmmm - by OEM, you actually mean generic replacements, not OEM. GSF and their ilk will be selling QH parts or Unipart, something like that, not genuine VAG. So you could be downgrading your discs at the same time as upgrading the pads.

Mine has ds2500 all round :D

Part prices from GSF

Front discs :

I have OEM ebc discs with DS2500s. Much better over the standard Furby setup.

My discs on previous furby (312mm) were sourced from eurocarparts. Was about

I've got ds2500s for the past 50K all around and they show no sign of wearing out. Even the standard OEM discs are still standing their ground (at 90K). Well recommended.

Yes, well recommended all round, require a little bit of warming up - I often don't hit the middle peddle hard enough on first use during a journey - say coming up to the first junction.

If you intend to do any track days, get the fluid changed/upgraded at the same time, had mine replaced with Castrol 4.1 superdot and would recommend this is done every two years any how as brake fluid is hydroscopic and will absorb moisture from the atmosphere, leading to a reduced boiling point, i.e. spongeyness in the peddle under persistant hard use.

DS2500's or Pagid Blue's all round on Black Diamond Drilled and grooved for nearly 25k and loving them.

As Lee said, fluid is king, all the brakes in the world are nothing if your fluid boils after 6 corners (possible on wlesh A roads ;) )

Rears worth doing, if you want.

I concur with the comments re discs, I suspect a false economy is in place. The Black diamonds have stood up to a lot of abuse and look far beeter than the original discs did on my 4x4 with similar miles.

So the GSF option, will last and unless your doing heavy brake work frequently, will be fine. But don't be surprised if they don't is my thoughts.

With extra boot weight, your unlikely to lock the rears, I can't on 2500's all round with nothing in the boot...
