Amundsen not knowing where I am.

Featured Replies

Last night, my sat nav was way off where I actually was. This has happened before, but after a couple of minutes it has sorted itself out.

this evening, not only is the nav showing somewhere different, but when I try and plan a route, it shows wrong distance etc, but does not even more the arrow.

Any ideas???

I am going to go outside now, switch ignotiion on, switch off the unit, switch ignition off and lock the car (as suggested in another post) but whilst I am doing that - and before a visit to the dealers in the morning, anyone got any ideas????

Mine did this a few weeks ago, before xmas, it was a very wet foggy and windy day, in fact it was the day that we had such strong winds that there was traffic chaos all over the country, I was coming back from Newbury to Sheffield and the sat nav thought I was somewhere down near Southampton all the way home, the gps would fluctuate between zero and three satellites so obviously not enough signal to calculate position as normally between 9 and 12, but next day it was back to normal so assumed just a satellite issue due to climatic conditions?

not sure. It was like this last night, AND just now.

fortunately I am not going anywhere tomorrow, so will see what happens overnight. if it does not work I will pop in to the dealers, but I presume this is one area of the car they wont know a lot about.

Hmmm, does sound as though it might be a faulty gps receiver if not resetting. Once the ignition is off for two hours, the unit should fully re-boot.

In the menu you can see satellite information, as previously mentioned it might be not enough of the little blighters to work properly.

For the life of me I can't remember how you get to the menu in question but it's there!

Keep an eye on it, sometimes an indication the group antenna on the roof it faulty or on its way out.

My Mk2 vRS has an Amundsen + in it, every now and again it doesnt fix its GPS properly, after 30/40 secs or so it sorts itself out. Its never failed to fix however. Also now and again I lose DAB and have to turn the car off for a while and back on for it to start working again.

Just spoken to skoda and they reckon it will be a problem with the receiver. Too busy to look at it today, but as the car is being serviced next Friday they will order a new one.

Back to suction mount on the windscreen!!!!!!
